Navigation (Compass) Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Navigation Act 1912.

Commencement

1. These Regulations shall come into operation on 1 January 1982.

Issue of licences to compass adjusters

2. Regulation 12 of the Navigation (Compass) Regulations is amended by omitting paragraphs (1) (a) and (b) and substituting the following paragraphs:

"(a) an applicant who holds—

(i) a certificate as Extra Master Class 1 issued under orders made in pursuance of regulations made under the Act; or

(ii) a certificate recognized for the purposes of the Act as equivalent to such a certificate;

(b) an applicant who holds—

(i) a certificate as Master Class 1 issued under orders made in pursuance of regulations made under the Act; or

(ii) a certificate recognized for the purposes of the Act as equivalent to such a certificate,

and has passed—

(iii) the examination the syllabus and conditions of which are prescribed by Schedule 2; or

(iv) an examination that is certified by the Minister to be equivalent to that examination; or".

Application for licence

3. Regulation 14 of the Navigation (Compass) Regulations is amended by omitting paragraph (2) (a) and substituting the following paragraph: "(a) the certificate referred to in that paragraph; and".

Schedule 2

4. Schedule 2 to the Navigation (Compass) Regulations is amended by omitting "appointed for the purposes of the Navigation (Examination of Masters and Mates) Regulations in accordance with the rules prescribed for examinations by those Regulations" and substituting "appointed under orders made in pursuance of regulations made under the Act".
