REGULATIONS UNDER THE NAVIGATION ACT 1912-1926.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Navigation Act 1912-1926, to come into operation on and from the first day of January, 1933.

Amendment of Navigation (Collision) Regulations.

(Statutory Rules 1923, No. 100.)

1. Regulation 4 of the Navigation (Collision) Regulations is amended by omitting the figures “31” and inserting in their stead the figures “32”.

2. The Schedule to the Navigation (Collision) Regulations is amended by inserting, after Article 31, a new Article as follows:—

“Method of Giving Helm Orders.

Article 32.

“No person on any ship registered in Australia or engaged in the coasting trade shall, when the ship is going ahead, give a helm or steering order containing the word ‘starboard’ or ‘right’, or any equivalent of ‘starboard’ or ‘right’, unless he intends that the head of the ship shall move to the right, or give a helm or steering order containing the word ‘port’ or ‘left’, or any equivalent of ‘port’ or ‘left’, unless he intends that the head of the ship shall move to the left.”
