REGULATIONS UNDER THE NAVAL DEFENCE ACT 1910.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Naval Defence Act 1910.

Amendments of the Naval Financial Regulations 

Tropical allowance.

1. Regulation 109 of the Naval Financial Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (3) the words “ engaged in a class of employment specified in ” and substituting the words “ included in a category or branch specified in column 1 of ”;

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (3) the words “ class of employment in ” and substituting the words “ category or branch in column 2 of ”;

(c) by omitting the table in sub-regulation (3) and substituting the following table:—

Category or branch	Circumstances of employment
Marine Engineering Branch	When employed in an engine room or boiler room or in an auxiliary machinery room that contains steam driven machinery or an internal combustion engine, while steam is raised or that internal combustion engine is in use.
Cook category	When employed in a galley in which a galley range or oven is operating.
Weapon Mechanic or Gunnery category	When employed on a day for not less than 7 hours in an untagged gun turret.
Weapons Electrical Engineering	When employed—
Branch	(a) on a day for not less than 7 hours in an untagged gun turret; or
(b) in a switchboard room not cooled by air conditioning and adjacent to a main machinery space, while steam is raised.

(d) by omitting paragraphs (a), (b) and (c) of sub-regulation (4) and substituting the following paragraphs:—

“ (a) a sailor included in the Marine Technical or Cook category;

(b) a sailor included in the Weapons Electrical Engineering Branch while on duty in a motor room; or

(c) a communications, radar or sonar watchkeeper.”;

(e) by omitting from sub-regulation (5) all words before and including the word and figure “ sub-regulation (4) ” and substituting the words “ Tropical allowance is payable to a sailor in respect of his employment, not being employment in circumstances specified in sub-regulation (3) or (4),”;

(f) by omitting from sub-regulation (7) the words “ prescribed by sub-regulation (3) or sub-regulation (4) ” and substituting the words “ specified in sub-regulation (3) or (4) ”;

(g) by omitting from sub-regulation (7) the word “ prescribed ” (last occurring) and substituting the word “ specified ”; and

(h) by omitting from sub-regulation (S) all words after the words “ ‘ surface craft ’ ” and substituting the words “ does not include an open motor boat ”.

Vehicle allowance.

2. Regulation 196 of the Naval Financial Regulations is amended by omitting the word “mileage ” and substituting the word “ vehicle ”.

3. Regulation 196a of the Naval Financial Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (5) the words “ one mile ” (where ever occurring) and substituting the figures and word “ 1.6 kilometres ”;

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (7) the words “ mileage allowance ” and substituting the words “ vehicle allowance ”;

(c) by omitting from sub-regulation (7) the word “ mileage ” (last occurring) and substituting the word “ travel ”;

(d) by omitting from sub-regulation (8) the word “ mile ” and substituting the word “ kilometre ”;

(e) by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (8) the figures and word “ 52 miles ” and substituting the figures and word “ 84 kilometres ”;

(f) by omitting from paragraph (b) of sub-regulation (8) the figures and word “ 20 miles ” and substituting the figures and word “ 32 kilometres ”;

(g) by omitting from sub-regulation (9) the word “ mileage ” and substituting the word “ vehicle ”; and

(h) by omitting from sub-regulation (10) the figure and words “ 3 cents per mile ” and substituting the figures and words “ 1.86 cents per kilometre ”.

Aggregation of travel for purposes of regulations 196 and 196a.

4. Regulation 196b of the Naval Financial Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting the words “ any mileage ” and substituting the word “ travel ”; and

(b) by omitting the word “ mileage ” (last occurring) and substituting the word “

 travel ”.

6. Regulation 4 of Statutory Rules 1976, No. 57 is amended—
