Naval Financial Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the Naval Defence Act 1910.

Medical and Dental treatment

Regulation 244 of the Naval Financial Regulations is amended:

(a) by omitting subregulation (1) and substituting the following subregulations:

"(1) The Commonwealth must provide the medical and dental treatment required to keep a member healthy for the purpose of discharging his or her duties.

"(1A) The Minister may determine the conditions on which the treatment is to be provided to a member in the light of:

(a) the facilities available under the circumstances (including the place where the member is serving); and

(b) the role of the member; and

(c) the operational requirements of the Defence Force.";

(b) by omitting from subregulations (3), (4) and (5) "of the Navy" (wherever occurring);

(c) by omitting from subregulation (7) the definition of "medical treatment" and substituting the following definitions:

"'medical treatment' includes:

(a) the giving of advice, treatment, supplies or appliances by or on the authority of a medical officer or medical practitioner; and;

(b) transport in an ambulance; and

(c) maintenance and accommodation at a hospital or other health care facility;

'member' means a member rendering continuous full time service;".
