REGULATIONS UNDER THE DEFENCE ACT 1903-1934 AND THE NAVAL DEFENCE ACT 1910-1934.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Defence Act 1903-1934 and the Naval Defence Act 1910-1934.

Amendment of Naval Financial Regulations.  

Outfit Gratuities to Sea-going Officers.

1. Regulation 30 of the Naval Financial Regulations is amended by inserting in the scale set out in sub-regulation (1) after the rank of “Chaplain” the following rank and particulars:—

2. Regulation 33 of the Naval Financial Regulations is amended by omitting paragraph (c) of sub-regulation (3) and inserting in its stead the following paragraph:—

“(c) A former rating of the Royal Navy or Royal Fleet Reserve who, within five years of his discharge therefrom, engages in the Royal Australian Navy, may be granted a free issue of any of the following

1 Pair Bathing Trunks or Bathing Costume (Class II. and III. ratings only).

2 No. Shirts, Tropical (Class I. ratings only).

3 No. Tunics, drill, with blue facings (Chief Petty Officer Stewards and Officers’ Stewards only).

3 pairs Gloves, white, cotton, (Chief Petty Officer Stewards and Officers’ Stewards only):

Provided that—

(a) if the rating engages for a period of three years or less, the articles of kit issued to him shall be treated as loaned articles which he shall maintain from Kit Upkeep Allowance;

(b) if the rating re-engages to complete a total period of at least five years’ continuous service, the articles may be permanently retained by him.”.

3. Regulation 48 of the Naval Financial Regulations is amended by inserting after sub-regulation (64) the following sub-regulation;—
