REGULATIONS UNDER THE NAVAL DEFENCE ACT 1910-1918.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Naval Defence Act 1910-1918, to come into operation as from the dates specified herein.

Amendment of Naval Establishments Regulations.

(Statutory Rules 1926, No. 197, as amended to this date.)

(Seventh Amendment.)

1. After regulation 43, the following new regulations, to operate as from 1st July, 1927, are inserted;—

“43a. (1) Except as provided in regulation 43b, where the Commonwealth Statistician notifies in the Gazette the index number ascertained in respect of food, groceries, and housing (rent of all houses) combined, for the six capital cities of the Commonwealth for the twelve months preceding the first day of April in any year, commencing with the twelve months preceding the first day of April, 1927, and the index number so notified is less than 1,672 or more than 1,744, salary payable in pursuance of the provisions of regulation 43 shall be varied in the following manner:—

(i) In the case of officers under 21 years of age—by increase or decrease of £3 per annum in respect of each 48 points or portion thereof by which respectively the index number exceeds 1,744 or is less than 1,672.

(ii) In the case of adult male officers—by increase or decrease of £6 per annum in respect of each 48 points or portion thereof by which respectively the index number exceeds 1,744 or is less than 1,672.

(2) Any variation made in pursuance of sub-regulation (1) of this regulation shall take effect on the first day of July next following the notification in the Gazette of the index number, and shall continue in force for a period of twelve months.

43b. The salaries of persons occupying the offices of—

Foreman;

Assistant Technical Examining Officer (Victualling);

Electrical Tester;

Naval Optical Instrument Maker;

Gun Examiner (Ordnance); and

Leading Examiner (Ordnance),

shall not be subject, to variation under regulation 43a”.

2. After regulation 43b, the following new regulation, to operate as from 16th April, 1931, is inserted:—

“43c. Notwithstanding anything contained in regulation 43 and 43a, salaries payable in pursuance of the provisions of those regulations shall be varied in the following manner on and from the sixteenth day of April,1931, up to and including the thirtieth day of June, 1931:—

(i) In the case of officers under 21 years of age—by decrease at the rate of £9 per annum.

(ii) In the case of adult male officers—by decrease at the rate of £18 per annum;

provided that this regulation shall not apply to officers and employees occupying the offices set forth in regulation 43b.”
