s1 2 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 1 Short title This regulation may be cited as the Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment Regulation (No. 4) 2001 . 2 Regulation amended This regulation amends the Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Regulation 1994 . 3 Amendment of sch 5 (Nature refuges) (1) Schedule 5, section 72— omit, insert— ‘72 Description ‘Lot 1 on RP604432 situated in the County of Livingstone, containing an area of about 7.03 ha, shown on plan PA15.’. (2) Schedule 5, section 279(d), ‘for fencing’— omit. (3) Schedule 5, section 304(b)— omit. (4) Schedule 5, section 304(c) to (e)— renumber as paragraphs (b) to (d). (5) Schedule 5— insert— ‘PART 64—BAKERS CREEK NATURE REFUGE ‘316 Name ‘Bakers Creek Nature Refuge. ‘317 Description ‘The part of lot 2 on RP840160 situated in the County of Carlisle, containing an area of about 33.9 ha, shown on plan PA58.
s3 3 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 ‘318 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) habitat for the vulnerable false water-rat ( Xeromys myoides ); and (b) 4 regional ecosystems, including 1 identified as endangered in ‘The Conservation Status of Queensland’s Bioregional Ecosystems’; and (c) a wildlife corridor between Bakers Creek Conservation Park and land along the banks of Bakers Creek. ‘319 Declared management intent and use ‘The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreement between the land-holder and the Minister, to allow— (a) sustainable harvesting of seed; and (b) access for environmental research; and (c) the use of fire to maintain vegetation structure and diversity; and (d) the use of motorbikes by the land-holder on existing tracks in the refuge. ‘320 Duration ‘The duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement. ‘PART 65—BRAEHEAD NATURE REFUGE ‘321 Name ‘Braehead Nature Refuge.
s3 4 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 ‘322 Description ‘The parts of lot 205 on plan MCH850 and lot 11 on SP102891 situated in the County of March, containing an area of about 100 ha, shown on plan PA87. ‘323 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) habitat for the following rare plants— (i) thready-barked myrtle ( Austromyrtus inophloia ); (ii) Nothoalsomitra suberosa ; and (b) habitat for the following vulnerable wildlife— (i) Queensland nut ( Macadamia integrifolia ); (ii) glossy black-cockatoo ( Calyptorhynchus lathami ); (iii) Richmond birdwing butterfly ( Ornithoptera richmondia ); and (c) 3 regional ecosystems considered to be poorly represented in the protected area estate. ‘324 Declared management intent and use ‘The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreement between the land-holder and the Minister, to allow— (a) access by special interest groups for nature based recreation, education and scientific research; and (b) sustainable harvesting of seed; and (c) limited taking of timber by the land-holder for fencing. ‘325 Duration ‘The duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement.
s3 5 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 ‘PART 66—BURTLE NATURE REFUGE ‘326 Name ‘Burtle Nature Refuge. ‘327 Description ‘The part of lot 1 on plan BF58 situated in the County of Beaufort, containing an area of about 1 269 ha, shown on plan PA68. ‘328 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) 2 regional ecosystems identified as of concern in ‘The Conservation Status of Queensland’s Bioregional Ecosystems’; and (b) 3 regional ecosystems threatened by clearing and inappropriate grazing practices. ‘329 Declared management intent and use ‘The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreement between the land-holder and the Minister, to allow— (a) limited cattle grazing at a stocking rate agreed between the land-holder and the Minister; and (b) limited taking of timber by the land-holder for fencing on the refuge; and (c) the use of fire to maintain vegetation structure and diversity. ‘330 Duration ‘The duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement.
s3 6 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 ‘PART 67—CAROA ISLAND PADDOCK NATURE REFUGE ‘331 Name ‘Caroa Island Paddock Nature Refuge. ‘332 Description ‘The part of lot 1 on plan CLM599 situated in the County of Clermont, containing an area of about 900 ha, shown on plan PA67. ‘333 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) 3 regional ecosystems identified as of concern and 1 regional ecosystem identified as endangered in ‘The Conservation Status of Queensland’s Bioregional Ecosystems’; and (b) Mitchell grass ( Astrebla spp.) pastures on alluvial plains. ‘334 Declared management intent and use ‘The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreement between the land-holder and the Minister, to allow— (a) limited cattle grazing at a stocking rate agreed between the land-holder and the Minister; and (b) limited taking of timber by the land-holder for fencing on the refuge; and (c) the use of fire to maintain vegetation structure and diversity. ‘335 Duration ‘The duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement.
s3 7 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 ‘PART 68—MOUNT ARMOUR NATURE REFUGE ‘336 Name ‘Mount Armour Nature Refuge. ‘337 Description ‘The part of lot 6 on plan BDR70 situated in the County of Bundara, containing an area of about 1 520 ha, shown on plan PA76. ‘338 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) 2 regional ecosystems identified as of concern and 1 regional ecosystem identified as endangered in ‘The Conservation Status of Queensland’s Bioregional Ecosystems’; and (b) a diverse landscape of considerable aesthetic value. ‘339 Declared management intent and use ‘The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreement between the land-holder and the Minister, to allow— (a) limited cattle grazing at a stocking rate agreed between the land-holder and the Minister; and (b) nature based recreational tourism, including the construction of accommodation facilities; and (c) limited taking of timber by the land-holder for fencing on the refuge; and (d) the use of fire to maintain vegetation structure and diversity. ‘340 Duration ‘The duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement.
s3 8 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 ‘PART 69—MOUNT STRADBROKE NATURE REFUGE ‘341 Name ‘Mount Stradbroke Nature Refuge. ‘342 Description ‘The part of lot 7 on RP32351 situated in the County of Churchill, containing an area of about 28.7 ha, shown on plan PA66. ‘343 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) a regional ecosystem identified as of concern and a regional ecosystem identified as endangered in ‘The Conservation Status of Queensland’s Bioregional Ecosystems’; and (b) habitat for the following wildlife— (i) the vulnerable black-breasted button-quail ( Turnix melanogaster ); (ii) the rare grey goshawk ( Accipiter novaehollandiae ); (iii) the rare narrow-leaved parsonsia ( Parsonsia lenticellata ). ‘344 Declared management intent and use ‘The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreement between the land-holder and the Minister, to allow— (a) access by special interest groups for nature based recreation, education and scientific research; and (b) sustainable harvesting of seed and plant cuttings; and (c) in consultation with the department, construction and maintenance of walking tracks.
s3 9 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 ‘345 Duration ‘The duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement. ‘PART 70—RAMBODA NATURE REFUGE ‘346 Name ‘Ramboda Nature Refuge. ‘347 Description ‘The parts of lot 7 on plan PT347, lot 8 on plan PT346 and lot 60 on plan PT313 situated in the County of Plantagenet, containing an area of about 654 ha, shown on plan PA79. ‘348 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports 2 regional ecosystems identified as endangered and 1 regional ecosystem identified as of concern in ‘The Conservation Status of Queensland’s Bioregional Ecosystems’. ‘349 Declared management intent and use ‘The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreement between the land-holder and the Minister, to allow— (a) limited cattle grazing at a stocking rate agreed between the land-holder and the Minister; and (b) limited taking of timber by the land-holder for fencing on the refuge; and (c) the control of feral animals; and (d) recreational horse riding.
s 3 10 s 3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 ‘350 Duration ‘The duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement. ‘PART 71—RIFLE RANGE NATURE REFUGE ‘351 Name ‘Rifle Range Nature Refuge. ‘352 Description ‘Lot 41 on SP135563 situated in the County of Denison, containing an area of about 80.98 ha, shown on plan PA75. ‘353 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) 2 regional ecosystems identified as of concern in ‘The Conservation Status of Queensland’s Bioregional Ecosystems’; and (b) habitat for 113 vertebrate species, including the rare cotton pygmy-goose ( Nettapus coromandelianus ) and the desert mouse ( Pseudomys desertor ). ‘354 Declared management intent and use ‘The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreement between the land-holder and the Minister, to allow— (a) in consultation with the department, construction and maintenance of recreational facilities, including, for example, the following— (i) picnic facilities; (ii) lookouts;
s 3 11 s 3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 (iii) walking tracks; (iv) signs and informational displays; and (b) sustainable harvesting of seed for local revegetation; and (c) limited cattle grazing at a stocking rate agreed between the land-holder and the Minister. ‘355 Duration ‘The duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement. ‘PART 72—SMITH’S RAINFOREST NATURE REFUGE ‘356 Name ‘Smith’s Rainforest Nature Refuge. ‘357 Description ‘The parts of lot 4 on plan SL12073 and lot 2 on plan SL3235 situated in the County of Stanley, containing an area of about 7.5 ha, shown on plan PA70. ‘358 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) a regional ecosystem identified as of concern in ‘The Conservation Status of Queensland’s Bioregional Ecosystems’; and (b) habitat for 189 plant species; and (c) a wildlife corridor between Moggill Creek and the area of the Brisbane Forest Park under the Brisbane Forest Park Act 1977 .
s 3 12 s 3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 ‘359 Declared management intent and use ‘The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreement between the land-holder and the Minister, to allow— (a) access by special interest groups for nature based recreation, education and scientific research; and (b) erosion stabilisation using local native plants; and (c) sustainable harvesting of seed for local revegetation. ‘360 Duration ‘The duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement. ‘PART 73—WALUMA NATURE REFUGE ‘361 Name ‘Waluma Nature Refuge. ‘362 Description ‘The part of lot 10 on RP804545 situated in the County of Cook, containing an area of about 4.68 ha, shown on plan PA61. ‘363 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) a regional ecosystem identified as of concern and a regional ecosystem identified as endangered in ‘The Conservation Status of Queensland’s Bioregional Ecosystems’; and (b) habitat for the following endangered wildlife— (i) Macrozamia lomandroides ;
s 3 13 s 3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 184, 2001 Regulation (No. 4) 2001 (ii) double-eyed fig-parrot (Coxen’s) ( Cyclopsitta diophthalma coxeni ); and (c) habitat for the following vulnerable wildlife— (i) glossy black-cockatoo ( Calyptorhynchus lathami ); (ii) wedge-leaf tuckeroo ( Cupaniopsis shirleyana ); and (d) an area of cultural significance for the local Aboriginal Bunda community. ‘364 Declared management intent and use ‘The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreement between the land-holder and the Minister, to allow— (a) access by special interest groups for education and scientific research; and (b) access for nature based recreation; and (c) access by members of the local Aboriginal Bunda community for traditional and cultural activities; and (d) the use of fire to maintain vegetation structure and diversity; and (e) sustainable harvesting of seed for local revegetation. ‘365 Duration ‘The duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement.’.
