s1 2 s4 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 214, 2004 Regulation (No. 3) 2004 1 Short title This regulation may be cited as the Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment Regulation (No. 3) 2004 . 2 Regulation amended This regulation amends the Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Regulation 1994. 3 Replacement of s 14 (Reference to document in sch 5) Section 14— omit, insert — ‘14 Reference to documents in sch 5 In schedule 5, a reference to 1 of the following documents is a reference to the document of that name published by the department 1 — (a) the document titled ‘The Conservation Status of Queensland’s Bioregional Ecosystems’; (b) the document titled ‘Biodiversity Assessment and Mapping Methodology’. 4 Amendment of sch 5 (Nature refuges) (1) Schedule 5— insert — ‘Part 128 AN.KI.DA Nature Refuge ‘382 Name ‘AN.KI.DA Nature Refuge. 1 Copies of each of these documents are available for inspection during office hours at the department’s office at 160 Ann Street, Brisbane. The documents are also available for inspection on the department’s website at < s4 3 s4 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 214, 2004 Regulation (No. 3) 2004 ‘383 Description ‘Lot 2 on RP185308 and the part of lot 2 on RP868833 situated in the County of Ward, containing an area of about 202 ha, shown on plan PA173. ‘384 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) several of concern regional ecosystems, including the following— (i) Eucalyptus oreades tall open forest on Cainozoic igneous rocks, described as regional ecosystem 12.8.2; (ii) Araucarian complex microphyll vine forest on Cainozoic igneous rocks, described as regional ecosystem 12.8.13; (iii) simple notophyll vine forest with Ceratopetalum apetalum on Cainozoic igneous rocks, described as regional ecosystem 12.8.18; and (b) a vegetation corridor linking the World Heritage listed Springbrook National Park with Springbrook Forest Reserve. ‘Part 129 Ballantyne Nature Refuge ‘385 Name ‘Ballantyne Nature Refuge. ‘386 Description ‘Lots 236 and 239 to 242 and the parts of lots 237 and 238 on RP169028 and the part of lot 235 on RP170898 situated in the County of Cook, containing an area of about 20.8 ha, shown on plan PA163.
s4 4 s4 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 214, 2004 Regulation (No. 3) 2004 ‘387 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) several of concern regional ecosystems, including the following— (i) Eucalyptus siderophloia, E. tereticornis, Corymbia intermedia open forest on alluvial plains near coast, described as regional ecosystem 12.3.11; (ii) Eucalyptus moluccana on sedimentary rocks, described as regional ecosystem 12.9-10.3; and (b) habitat suitable for a variety of animals, including the vulnerable glossy black-cockatoo ( Calyptorhynchus lathami ) and the scrub turkey ( Alectura lathami ); and (c) vegetation that is part of a bioregional wildlife corridor identified as being of State significance in ‘Biodiversity Assessment and Mapping Methodology’; and (d) intact vegetation on the banks of the Burrum River, contributing to the river’s water quality; and (e) cultural and natural resources of the adjacent The Point Nature Refuge. ‘Part 130 Creek Retreat Nature Refuge ‘388 Name ‘Creek Retreat Nature Refuge. ‘389 Description ‘The part of lot 16 on RP703623 situated in the County of Carlisle, containing an area of about 2.52 ha, shown on plan PA169.
s4 5 s4 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 214, 2004 Regulation (No. 3) 2004 ‘390 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) a remnant semi-deciduous notophyll/mesophyll vine forest fringing watercourses on alluvial plains, described as the of concern regional ecosystem 8.3.1; and (b) a remnant of Melaleuca leucadendra or M. fluviatilis with Casuarina cunninghamiana open forest to woodland, fringing watercourses, described as the not of concern regional ecosystem 8.3.3; and (c) habitat for a diversity of native flora and fauna species including many rare and vulnerable species; and (d) remnant vegetation providing part of a wildlife corridor along Finch Hatton Creek. ‘Part 131 Curtis Island Nature Refuge ‘391 Name ‘Curtis Island Nature Refuge. ‘392 Description ‘Lot 11 and the part of lot 8 on CP860464 situated in the County of Deas Thompson, containing an area of about 517 ha, shown on plan PA164. ‘393 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) Eucalyptus tereticornis woodland to open forest on alluvial plains, described as the endangered regional ecosystem 12.3.3; and (b) the following of concern regional ecosystems—
s4 6 s4 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 214, 2004 Regulation (No. 3) 2004 (i) Eucalyptus siderophloia, E. tereticornis, Corymbia intermedia open forest on alluvial plains near coast, described as regional ecosystem 12.3.11; (ii) Corymbia intermedia, Lophostemon suaveolens woodland on metamorphics with interbedded volcanics, described as regional ecosystem 12.11.20; (iii) Allocasuarina luehmannii, Melaleuca nervosa woodland on metamorphics with interbedded volcanics, described as regional ecosystem 12.11.21; and (c) a vegetation corridor between 2 sections of the adjoining Curtis Island National Park; and (d) cultural and natural resources of the adjacent Curtis Island State Forest. ‘Part 132 Edward Said Nature Refuge ‘394 Name ‘Edward Said Nature Refuge. ‘395 Description ‘The part of lot 42 on SP134203 situated in the County of Solander, containing an area of about 35 ha, shown on plan PA172. ‘396 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) mesophyll fan palm ( Licuala ramsayi ) swamp vine forest on very wet poorly drained metamorphic foothills and tablelands, described as the endangered regional ecosystem 7.11.2; and
s4 7 s4 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 214, 2004 Regulation (No. 3) 2004 (b) a significant part of a large patch of remnant vegetation that adjoins the Mowbray Forest Reserve section of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area; and (c) habitat of the endangered southern cassowary (southern population) ( Casuarius casuarius ). ‘Part 133 Galaji Nature Refuge ‘397 Name ‘Galaji Nature Refuge. ‘398 Description ‘The part of lot 3 on RP747263 situated in the County of Nares, containing an area of about 22.07 ha, shown on plan PA168. ‘399 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) habitat suitable for the endangered southern cassowary (southern population) ( Casuarius casuarius ) and the rare Lumholtz’s tree-kangaroo ( Dendrolagus lumholtzi ); and (b) a vegetation corridor between Wooroonooran National Park and Topaz Road National Park. ‘Part 134 Hypsi Forest Nature Refuge ‘400 Name ‘Hypsi Forest Nature Refuge.
s4 8 s4 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 214, 2004 Regulation (No. 3) 2004 ‘401 Description ‘The part of lot 2 on RP839156 situated in the County of Nares, containing an area of about 47.85 ha, shown on plan PA175. ‘402 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) regenerating and remnant complex notophyll vine forest with emergent kauri pine ( Agathis robusta ) on moist granite foothills and uplands, described as the not of concern regional ecosystem 7.12.7; and (b) a significant part of a network of habitat linking— (i) Wooroonooran National Park; and (ii) remnant patches of complex mesophyll vine forest on very wet basalt upland, described as the endangered regional ecosystem 7.8.2; and (c) habitat of rare stream-dwelling rainforest frogs on Gillies Creek, a permanent rocky stream at 700m altitude, that flows into Wooroonooran National Park; and (d) habitat of the endangered southern cassowary (southern population) ( Casuarius casuarius ) and the rare Lumholtz’s tree-kangaroo ( Dendrolagus lumholtzi ). ‘Part 135 The Cedars Nature Refuge ‘403 Name ‘The Cedars Nature Refuge.
s4 9 s4 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 214, 2004 Regulation (No. 3) 2004 ‘404 Description ‘The part of lot 3 on RP722821 situated in the County of Carlisle, containing an area of about 5.73 ha, shown on plan PA165. ‘405 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) a remnant notophyll/microphyll vine forest that provides habitat suitable for several rare or vulnerable plants, including the following— (i) the rare plants Actephila sessilifolia , Atalaya rigida , Bonamia dietrichiana , giant ironwood ( Choricarpia subargentea) , Macropteranthes fitzalanii and Rhodamnia pauciovulata ; (ii) the vulnerable plants Actephila sp. (Koumala I.G.Champion 870), Graptophyllum ilicifolium and Neisosperma kilneri ; and (b) cultural and natural resources of the adjacent The Dome Nature Refuge. ‘Part 136 The Dome Nature Refuge ‘406 Name ‘The Dome Nature Refuge. ‘407 Description ‘The part of lot 3 on SP117923 situated in the County of Carlisle, containing an area of about 11.3 ha, shown on plan PA159.
