s1 4 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 238, 2003 Regulation (No. 2) 2003 1 Short title This regulation may be cited as the Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment Regulation (No. 2) 2003 . 2 Regulation amended This regulation amends the Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Regulation 1994. 3 Amendment of sch 5 (Nature refuges) (1) Schedule 5, section 92, ‘565 ha’— omit, insert — ‘1 120 ha’. (2) Schedule 5, section 173, ‘69 ha’— omit, insert — ‘69.48 ha’. (3) Schedule 5— insert — ‘PART 98—ALECTURA NATURE REFUGE ‘292 Name ‘Alectura Nature Refuge. ‘293 Description ‘Lot 6 on RP903529 situated in the County of Livingstone, containing an area of about 83.5 ha, shown on plan PA108. ‘294 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) several regional ecosystems, including open forest, woodland and pockets of microphyll vine forest; and
s3 5 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 238, 2003 Regulation (No. 2) 2003 (b) an area of native vegetation of high significance for conservation, including the Mt Wheeler volcanic plug and the Cawarral serpentinite belt; and (c) cultural and natural resources of the following areas adjoining the nature refuge— (i) Melomys Nature Refuge; (ii) Trigona Nature Refuge. ‘PART 99—BARALBA CORRIDOR NATURE REFUGE ‘295 Name ‘Baralba Corridor Nature Refuge. ‘296 Description ‘Lot 75 on RP737399, lot 90 on RP738146 and lot 103 on RP737399 situated in the County of Solander, containing an area of about 3.05 ha, shown on plan PA126. ‘297 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) complex mesophyll rainforest; and (b) habitat for— (i) the endangered southern cassowary (southern population) ( Casuarius casuarius ) and the endangered spotted-tailed quoll ( Dasyurus maculatus gracilis ); and (ii) the rare Bennett’s tree-kangaroo ( Dendrolagus bennettianus ); and (c) a significant part of the wildlife corridor linking 2 separate areas of the Cape Tribulation section of Daintree National Park.
s3 6 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 238, 2003 Regulation (No. 2) 2003 ‘PART 100—BILLABOO NATURE REFUGE ‘298 Name ‘Billaboo Nature Refuge. ‘299 Description ‘The part of lot 62 on SP140581 situated in the County of Plantagenet, containing an area of about 7 456 ha, shown on plan PA98. ‘300 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) several regional ecosystems, including eucalypt woodland and microphyll rainforest; and (b) potential habitat for the vulnerable brush-tailed rock-wallaby ( Petrogale penicillata ) and the vulnerable plant Corymbia clandestina ; and (c) cultural and natural resources of the following areas adjoining the nature refuge— (i) the Theresa Hut Nature Refuge; (ii) the Zamia State Forest; and (d) protection of vegetation on the Drummond Range. ‘PART 101—BLACKJACK MOUNTAIN NATURE REFUGE ‘301 Name ‘Blackjack Mountain Nature Refuge.
s3 7 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 238, 2003 Regulation (No. 2) 2003 ‘302 Description ‘The part of lot 1 on plan DK230 situated in the County of Drake, containing an area of about 199.8 ha, shown on plan PA117. ‘303 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports an important local remnant containing a diverse range of plants and animals, including each of the following— (a) the vulnerable plant Croton magneticus ; (b) potential habitat for the rare black-chinned honeyeater ( Melithreptus gularis ) and the rare reptile Anomalopus brevicollis ; (c) habitat for the vulnerable squatter pigeon (southern subspecies) ( Geophaps scripta scripta ). ‘PART 102—CORNUBIA FOREST NATURE REFUGE ‘304 Name ‘Cornubia Forest Nature Refuge. ‘305 Description ‘Lots 51 to 56 and 58 on RP86516 situated in the County of Stanley, containing an area of about 132.8 ha, shown on plan PA124. ‘306 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) several regional ecosystems, including open forest, woodland and paperbark communities; and (b) part of the habitat for 1 of the most significant populations of koala ( Phascolarctos cinereus ) in eastern Australia; and
s3 8 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 238, 2003 Regulation (No. 2) 2003 (c) cultural and natural resources of the Venman Bushland National Park, which is linked to the nature refuge by a vegetated corridor. ‘PART 103—EAGLEFIELD CREEK NATURE REFUGE ‘307 Name ‘Eaglefield Creek Nature Refuge. ‘308 Description ‘The part of lot 4 on plan DC93 situated in the County of Dickson, containing an area of about 93.0 ha, shown on plan PA129. ‘309 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports several regional ecosystems in the extensively cleared brigalow belt bioregion, including each of the following— (a) brigalow and belah open forest; (b) Acacia cambagei woodland; (c) coolabah woodland. ‘PART 104—IGHTHAM NATURE REFUGE ‘310 Name ‘Ightham Nature Refuge. ‘311 Description ‘The part of lot 4201 on plan PH333 situated in the County of Coreena, containing an area of about 1 634 ha, shown on plan PA127.
s3 9 s3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 238, 2003 Regulation (No. 2) 2003 ‘312 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) numerous regional ecosystems in the extensively cleared brigalow belt bioregion, including each of the following types of woodland— (i) bendee; (ii) coolabah; (iii) lancewood; (iv) river red gum; (v) silver-leaved ironbark; and (b) wildlife habitat on land linked to the nature refuge by vegetated corridors. ‘PART 105—INCANTO NATURE REFUGE ‘313 Name ‘Incanto Nature Refuge. ‘314 Description ‘The part of lot 18 on RP902092 situated in the County of Canning, containing an area of about 42.02 ha, shown on plan PA121. ‘315 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) several regional ecosystems in an extensively cleared area, including tall open forest and notophyll rainforest; and (b) a population of the vulnerable plant Macadamia ternifolia .
s 3 10 s 3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 238, 2003 Regulation (No. 2) 2003 ‘PART 106—KENMARE NATURE REFUGE ‘316 Name ‘Kenmare Nature Refuge. ‘317 Description ‘The part of lot 4 on plan HT618 situated in the County of Humboldt, containing an area of about 777.3 ha, shown on plan PA120. ‘318 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) numerous regional ecosystems in an extensively cleared area, including brigalow, blackbutt and eucalypt woodland and blue grass downs; and (b) a small population of the vulnerable plant ooline ( Cadellia pentastylis ). ‘PART 107—MELOMYS NATURE REFUGE ‘319 Name ‘Melomys Nature Refuge. ‘320 Description ‘Lot 7 on RP903529 situated in the County of Livingstone, containing an area of about 40.3 ha, shown on plan PA109. ‘321 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports—
s 3 11 s 3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 238, 2003 Regulation (No. 2) 2003 (a) several regional ecosystems, including mixed eucalypt forest and blue gum forest; and (b) an area of native vegetation of high significance for conservation, including the Mt Wheeler volcanic plug and the Cawarral serpentinite belt; and (c) cultural and natural resources of the following areas adjoining the nature refuge— (i) Alectura Nature Refuge; (ii) Trigona Nature Refuge. ‘PART 108—MOUNT MONTY RAINFOREST NATURE REFUGE ‘322 Name ‘Mount Monty Rainforest Nature Refuge. ‘323 Description ‘The part of lot 11 on RP40618 situated in the County of Lennox, containing an area of about 13.5 ha, shown on plan PA136. ‘324 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) regional ecosystems providing habitat for a number of rare and vulnerable plants; and (b) cultural and natural resources on land adjoining the nature refuge.
s 3 12 s 3 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment No. 238, 2003 Regulation (No. 2) 2003 ‘PART 109—PALM VALLEY NATURE REFUGE ‘325 Name ‘Palm Valley Nature Refuge. ‘326 Description ‘Lot 61 on plan CI1552, lot 72 on plan CI426 and the part of lot 3 on RP704527 situated in the County of Carlisle, containing an area of about 288 ha, shown on plan PA122. ‘327 Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘The nature refuge supports— (a) mesophyll and notophyll vine forest and open woodland; and (b) potential habitat for— (i) the vulnerable powerful owl ( Ninox strenua ) and the vulnerable rufous owl (southern subspecies) ( Ninox rufa queenslandica ); and (ii) the rare grey goshawk ( Accipiter novaehollandiae ); and (c) a population of the rare plant Actephila sessilifolia ; and (d) catchment protection for part of the Alligator Creek. ‘PART 110—TARAVALE NATURE REFUGE ‘328 Name ‘Taravale Nature Refuge.
