This regulation may be cited as the Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment Regulation (No. 1) 1996 . ˙ Regulation amended 2. This regulation amends the Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Regulation 1994 . ˙ Amendment of sch 2 (National parks) 3.(1) Schedule 2, entry for ‘Capricornia Cays National Park’— omit, insert — ‘Capricornia Cays National Park Lot 402 on plan NPW546 situated in the County of Flinders, containing an area of about 178 ha’. (2) Schedule 2, entry for ‘Dryander National Park’— omit, insert — ‘Dryander National Park Lot 24 on plan NPW559 situated in the County of Herbert, containing an area of about 11 800 ha’. (3) Schedule 2, entry for ‘Hull River National Park’— omit, insert — ‘Hull River National Park Lot 35 on plan NPW558 situated in the County of Cardwell, containing an area of about 3 070 ha’.

Schedule 3— insert — ‘Kirrama Conservation Park Lot 11 on plan CP805066 situated in the County of Cardwell, containing an area of about 530 ha’. ˙ Amendment of sch 5 (Nature refuges) 5.(1) Schedule 5, part 1, section 1, heading— omit, insert — ‘ Name ’. (2) Schedule 5— insert — ‘ PART 2—JAL NATURE REFUGE ‘ Name ‘ 6. JAL Nature Refuge. ‘ Description ‘ 7. The parts of lots 6, 7 and 8 on RP 883336 situated in the County of Cavendish, Parish of Ravensbourne, containing an area of about 49 ha, shown hachured on plan PA2. ‘ Significant cultural and natural resources and values ‘ 8. The nature refuge supports— (a) significant flora, including wet sclerophyll forest, rainforest and riparian closed forest in an otherwise cleared area; and (b) significant fauna, including the following birds— (i) the black-breasted button quail ( Turnix malanogaster );

s5 4 s5 Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Amendment (No. 1) No. 9, 1996 (ii) the sooty owl ( Tyto tenebricosa ); (iii) the masked owl ( Tyto novaehollandiae ). ‘ Proposed management intent and use ‘ 9.(1) The nature refuge is comprised of 3 areas, each of which is the subject of a separate conservation agreement. ‘ (2) The nature refuge will be managed, under the conservation agreements, to— (a) maintain and foster wildlife populations and communities; and (b) allow scientific research and monitoring; and (c) allow nature based recreation for freehold tenants and invited guests. ‘ Duration ‘ 10. For each of the areas comprising the nature refuge, the duration of the declaration of the nature refuge is the duration of the conservation agreement for the area.’. ENDNOTES 1.
