1 Short title
This notice may be cited as the Nature Conservation (Macropod Harvest Period 2015) Notice 2014.
2 Commencement
This notice commences on 1 January 2015.
3 Definitions
The dictionary in schedule 3 defines particular words used in this notice.
4 Harvest period—conservation plan, s 10
(1)This section declares the harvest period for harvest macropods in a harvest zone.(2)The harvest period is 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2015.(3)A harvest macropod is—(a)an eastern grey kangaroo (Macropus giganteus); or(b)a red kangaroo (Macropus rufus); or(c)a common wallaroo (Macropus robustus).(4)A harvest zone is—(a)the central harvest zone; or(b)the eastern harvest zone; or(c)the western harvest zone.(5)The central harvest zone is the area consisting of the area of each local government mentioned in schedule 2, part 1.(6)The eastern harvest zone is the area consisting of the area of each local government mentioned in schedule 2, part 2.(7)The western harvest zone is the area consisting of the area of each local government mentioned in schedule 2, part 3.
5 Conditions on taking or using harvest macropods—conservation plan, s 11
(1)This section sets out the conditions imposed on the taking or using of harvest macropods during the harvest period.(2)An eastern grey kangaroo must not be taken from the western harvest zone.(3)The holder of a commercial wildlife harvesting licence for harvest macropods—(a)must comply with the National Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos and Wallabies for Commercial Purposes when taking a harvest macropod; andEditor’s note—
The code of practice may be inspected on the website of the Commonwealth Department of Environment— < not sell, or give away, the carcass or skin of a harvest macropod if there is a bullet wound in the macropod’s body.(4)In this section—body, of a harvest macropod, means a part of the macropod’s body other than its head.6 Minimum area of skin—conservation plan, s 12
(1)This section sets out the minimum area of skin of a harvest macropod taken for skin only.(2)The minimum area is 0.41m2.7 Minimum weights—conservation plan, s 13
(1)This section sets out the minimum weight of the carcass of a harvest macropod taken for meat, or for meat and skin.(2)The minimum whole weight is 20kg.(3)The minimum dressed weight is—(a)if the harvest macropod is fully dressed—13kg; or(b)otherwise—13kg, plus the extra weight stated in schedule 1 for each part of the harvest macropod that has not been removed.8 Shortening harvest period
(1)This section applies if the chief executive intends to amend this notice to change the end of the harvest period to a day (a new end day) that is earlier than 31 December 2015.(2)The chief executive must—(a)at least 7 days before the new end day—give a written notice stating the new end day to each holder of a macropod harvesting licence for the harvest macropod; and(b)on or before the end day—publish the new end day in a newspaper circulating generally in the State.9 Expiry
