REGULATIONS UNDER THE NATIONAL SECURITY ACT 1939-1940.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the National Security Act 1939-1940.

National Security (Volunteer Air Observers Corps) Regulations.

Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the National Security (Volunteer Air Observers Corps) Regulations.

Definitions.

2. In these Regulations, unless the contrary intention appears—

“the Air Board” means the Air Board constituted under the Air Force Regulations;

“the Air Force” means the Royal Australian Air Force constituted under the Air Force Act 1923-1941;

“the Observers Corps” means the Volunteer Air Observers Corps constituted under these Regulations.

Constitution of Corps.

3.—(1.) There shall be a Volunteer Air Observers Corps for the purposes of keeping watch for and of reporting enemy aircraft over Australian territory.

(2.) The Observers Corps shall be maintained, organized and controlled by the Air Board in such manner as it thinks fit, and shall consist of—

(a) such persons, male or female, as volunteer to serve and are enrolled therein by the Air Board; and

(b) persons detailed for service with the Observers Corps in pursuance of regulation 4 of these Regulations.

Air Board may detail members of Air Forces for service with Corps.

4.The Air Board may from time to time detail any member of the Air Force or of the Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force for service with the Observers Corps, and service with the Observers Corps by any such member shall be deemed for all purposes to be service with the Air Force or the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, as the case may be.

Conditions of service of members.

5. The conditions of service of members of the Observers Corps shall be such as are determined from time to time by the Air Board.

Duties of members.

6. Members of the Observers Corps shall perform such duties within Australia as are required of them by the Air Board.

Discharge of members.

7. Any member of the Observers Corps may be discharged therefrom at any time by the Air Board.
