REGULATION UNDER THE NATIONAL SECURITY ACT 1939-1940.*
I, THE
GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the
advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation
under the

Amendment of the National Security (Supplementary) Regulations.
The National Security (Supplementary) Regulations are amended by adding at the end thereof the following regulation:—
“83.—(1.) A person shall not publish any advertisement relating to, or intended to promote the sale of, any goods, which contains any matter directly or indirectly relating to—
(
a ) the seasons or days of Christmas, New Year or Easter, howsoever described; or(
b )Christmas, New Year or Easter gifts, or the practice of giving Christmas, New Year or Easter gifts.

“(2.) An advertisement shall be deemed to be published within the meaning of this regulation if it is—
(
a ) inserted in any newspaper, periodical, catalogue or other publication printed or published in Australia; or(
b ) exhibited—(i) in or on any sign, hoarding, building, show case, window, vehicle or place (whether or not a public place and whether on land or water); or
(ii) in the view of persons being or passing in or on any street or public place;
(
c ) contained in or attached to any document or wrapping sent or delivered to any person or thrown or left upon premises in the occupation of any person; or(
d ) broadcast by wireless transmission:
Provided that nothing in this sub-regulation shall be deemed to prohibit the exhibiting of any advertisement upon any sign, hoarding, building or vehicle, where the advertisement was so exhibited before the commencement of this regulation.
“(3.) This regulation shall be administered by the Minister of State for War Organization of Industry.
“(4.) In this regulation:—
‘advertisement’ includes a display or arrangement of any articles in or on any premises on which the business of selling goods is carried on or in any show case or window on such premises.”.
