REGULATIONS UNDER THE DEFENCE (TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS) ACT 1946-1948.*

, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Defence (Transitional Provisions) Act 1946-1948.

Amendments of the National Security (Staff of War-time

Authorities) Regulations.  

Variations of salary on account of variations in cost of living.

1.—(1.) Regulation 7 of the National Security (Staff of War-time Authorities) Regulations is amended— 

(a) by omitting from the table in sub-regulation (2.) the words " Adult Female." and inserting in their stead the words and figures " Adult females and officers 19 and 20 years of age. ” ;

(b) by omitting from that table the words and figures " Officers under 21 years of age." and inserting in their stead the words and figures " Officers under 19 years of age.";

(c) by omitting from sub-regulation (3.) the words and figures " Four pounds per annum in the case of adult females and Three pounds per annum in the case of officers, under 21 years of age " and inserting in their stead the words and figures " Four pounds per annum in the case of adult females and officers 19 and 20 years of age, and Three pounds per annum in the case of officers under 19 years of age ";

Being the regulations having

 that title as in force under the Defence (Transitional Provisions) Act 1946-1948, as amended by Statutory Rules 1947, Nos. 6 and 128 ; 1948, Nos. 21, 98 and 127 ; and 1949, No. 35. The Regulations under the National Security Act 1939-1946 having the corresponding title comprise Statutory Rules 1941, No. 273, as amended by Statutory Rules 1942, Nos. 108 and 179 ; 1943, Nos. 59, 88, 105, 189, 253 and 285 ; 1944, Nos. 8 and 169 : 1945, Nos. 8, 21, 119 and 166 ; and 1946, Nos. 102 and 143.

(e) by omitting from that table the words and figures " Officers under 21 years of age." and inserting in their stead the words and figures " Officers under 19 years of age.";

(f) by omitting from sub-regulation (5.) the words and figures " Four pounds per annum in the case of adult females and Three pounds per annum in the case of officers under 21 years of age" and inserting in their stead the words and figures " Four pounds per annum in the case of adult females and officers 19 and 20 years of age, and Three pounds per annum in the case of officers under 19 years of age ";

(g) by omitting from sub-regulation (6.) all the words and figures from and including the worth " Adult males " to the end of the sub-regulation and inserting in their stead the words and figures :—

(2.) The first adjustment of salaries under regulation 7 of the National Security (Staff of War-time Authorities) Regulations as amended by sub-regulation (1) of this regulation shall be made as from the commencement of the first fortnightly pay period beginning in November, 1948, and shall be based on the index number for the six months ended on the thirtieth day of March, 1941, which shall be deemed to be 80.2.

2. Regulation 12 of the National Security (Staff of War-time Authorities) Regulations is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead :—

Meal allowance.

“ 12. Where an officer whose ordinary hours of duty are between 7.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. is required to attend for duty before 6.30 a.m., or to remain on duty after 6.30 p.m., and where an officer is required to commence duty at least two hours before the usual time, or to remain on duty at least two hours beyond the usual time, and such attendance necessitates his obtaining a meal away from home, he shall be granted a meal allowance according to salary on the following scale :—

The Second Schedule.

3. The Second Schedule to the National Security (Staff of War-time Authorities) Regulations is amended by omitting the words-

4. The Third Schedule to the National Security (Staff of War-time Authorities) Regulations is repealed and the following Schedule inserted in its stead :—

(i) An allowance at the rate of £24 per annum shall be paid to an officer under 21 years of age subject to the passing of such tests as the Minister approves

(ii) Advancement beyond £246 per annum to be subject to the passing of such tests as the Minister approves

  • (iii) A minimum adult salary of £234 per

     annum shall be paid subject to the passing of tests referred to in paragraph (ii) above, with advancement to £258 per annum twelve months thereafter

The Eleventh, Twelfth and Thirteenth Schedules.

7. The Eleventh, Twelfth and Thirteenth Schedules to the National Security (Staff of War-time Authorities) Regulations are repealed.

Commencement.

8.--(1.) Regulations 4 and 5 of these Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the seventh day of October, 1948.

(2.) The amendment effected by paragraph (a) of regulation 6 of these Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of January, 1948.

(3.) The amendments effected by paragraphs (b) and (c)of that regulation shall be deemed to have come into operation on the seventh day of October, 1948.
