REGULATION UNDER THE NATIONAL SECURITY ACT 1939-1940.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the National Security Act 1939-1940.

Amendment of the National Security (Inquiries) Regulations.

After regulation 3 of the National Security (Inquiries) Regulations the following regulation is inserted:—

Inquiries by the Tariff Board.

“3a.—(1.) The Minister of State for Trade and Customs may direct the Tariff Board constituted under the Tariff Board Act 1921-1934 to inquire into, and report to him on, any matter in relation to the public safety or defence of the Commonwealth and the Territories of the Commonwealth which he refers to the Tariff Board.

“(2.) For the purposes of any such inquiry and report, the provisions of these Regulations shall apply in like manner as if the Tariff Board were a Board appointed under regulation 3 of these Regulations and as if the Chairman and each member of the Tariff Board were the Chairman and a member respectively of a Board so appointed.”.
