National Parks and Wildlife Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1975.

After Regulation 20d of the National Parks and Wildlife Regulations the following Regulation is inserted:

Sale of liquor

“20e. (1) A person shall not sell liquor in Kakadu National Park without the permission in writing of the Director.

Penalty: $1,000.

“(2) The Director shall not grant permission under sub-regulation (1) to a person who is not the holder of a licence under the Liquor Act.

“(3) Where an application has been made for permission under sub-regulation (1), the Director—

(a) shall afford the Northern Land Council an opportunity to comment on the merits of the application; and

(b) in deciding whether to grant the permission, shall have regard to any views expressed by the Northern Land Council.

“(4) In this regulation—

‘Kakadu National Park’ means the park to which the name ‘Kakadu National Park’ is assigned under section 7 of the Act;

‘liquor’ means a beverage that contains more than 1.15 per cent by volume of ethyl alcohol;

‘Liquor Act’ means the Liquor Act of the Northern Territory;

‘Northern Land Council’ means the body of that name established under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976.”.
