National Parks and Wildlife Amendment Act 2001

An Act to amend the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1970

[Royal Assent 12 April 2001]

Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows:

1Short titleThis Act may be cited as the National Parks and Wildlife Amendment Act 2001 . 2CommencementThis Act commences on the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent. 3Principal ActIn this Act, the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1970 is referred to as the Principal Act. 4Section 16 amended (Revocation of reservations) Section 16 of the Principal Act is amended as follows: (a) by inserting in subsection (4) ", nature recreation area" after "area"; (b) by omitting paragraph (a) from subsection (5) . 5Section 24A insertedAfter section 24 of the Principal Act , the following section is inserted in Part IV: 24AProhibition on destruction of trees A person must not cut down a tree or damage or otherwise destroy a tree or a fallen tree, on reserved land without the approval of the managing authority.

Penalty:  Fine not exceeding 500 penalty units or imprisonment for a term not more than 2 years, or both.
