National Measurement Regulations (Amendment) (Cth)
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the
Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive
Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the
Dated 27 October 1988.

“(4a) The inch, being a unit of measurement equal to (0.914 4)/36 of a metre, is an additional legal unit of measurement of length for use for the purpose of measurement in relation to:
(a) equipment, being:
(i) automotive tyres or rims;
(ii) equipment used, or intended for use, for the manufacture or repair of automotive tyres or rims;
(iii) precision pipes, precision tubes, precision fittings or precision screw threads;

(iv) equipment manufactured for use as spare parts for equipment constructed using measurements other than metric measurements;
(v) equipment used, or intended for use, in the manufacture of equipment referred to in subparagraph (iii) or (iv);
(vi) equipment used, or intended for use, by the Department of Defence;
(vii) equipment used, or intended for use, in aviation;
(viii) equipment used, or intended for use, in the electronics industry; or
(ix) equipment used, or intended for use, in the computer industry;
(b) components of equipment referred to in paragraph (a); or
(c) contracts, dealings or other transactions in respect of equipment or components of equipment referred to in paragraph (a) or (b).
“(5) The foot, being a unit of measurement equal to (0.914 4)/3 of a metre, is an additional legal unit of measurement of length for use for the purpose of measurement in relation to:
(a) altitude in aviation;
(b) vertical separation in aviation;
(c) submarine depth; or
(d) contracts, dealings or other transactions relating to matters referred to in paragraph (a), (b) or (c).”.
(a) by omitting subregulation (1);
(b) by omitting from subregulation (2) “(not being an Australian legal unit of measurement)”.
