REGULATIONS UNDER THE NATIONAL HEALTH ACT 1953-1971.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia. acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council. hereby make the following Regulations under the National Health Act 1953-1971.

NATIONAL HEALTH (VARIATION OF BENEFITS) (NO. 5) REGULATIONS

Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the National Health (Variation of Benefits) (No. 5) Regulations.

Commencement.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the first day of July, 1972, and apply in relation to the payment of Commonwealth benefit in respect of medical expenses incurred on or after that date.

Definitions.

3. In these Regulations, “the Act” means the National Health Act 1953-1971.

Act to have effect as varied.

4. The Act shall have effect as if the tables in the Schedules were varied as set out in the Schedule to these Regulations.

THE SCHEDULE Regulation 4.

VARIATIONS OF THE TABLE IN THE FIRST SCHEDULE TO THE ACT

1. Omit items 1 and 4, insert the following items:—
“5	Professional attendance (not being an attendance covered by any other item in this Part)—each attendance at consulting rooms, hospital or nursing home..............................................................................................................	1.45”
“6	Professional attendance (not being an attendance covered by any other item in this Part)—each attendance at aplace other than consulting rooms, hospital or nursing home....................................................................................	2.35”.
2. Omit item 44, insert the following item:—
“42	Pre-operative examination of a patient in preparation for the administration of an anaesthetic, being an examination curried out at an attendance other than that at which the anaesthetic is administered (G)................................	1.45”.
3. Omit items 201 and 204. insert the following items:—
“202	Antenatal care where attendances do not exceed ten—each attendance	1.45”
“205	Antenatal care where attendances exceed ten..........................................	22.40”.
4. Omit item 3002, insert the following item:—
“3001	Dressing of localised burns (not involving grafting)—each attendance at which the procedure is performed..................................................................	1.45”.

5. Omit item 5713, insert the following item:—
“5712	Cornea or sclera, removal of superficial foreign body from....................	1.45”.
6. Omit item 6101, insert the following item:—
“6102	Local infiltration around nerve or in muscle with alcohol, novocaine or similar preparation—each attendance at which an injection is given	1.45”.
7. Omit item 6497, insert the following item:—
“6496	One or more ribs—each attendance (G)...................................................	1.45”.
8. Omit item 6572, insert the following item:—
“6573	Skull, not requiring operation—each attendance (G)...............................	1.45”.
9. Omit item 6577, insert the following item:—
“6576	Nasal bones, not requiring reduction—each attendance (G)....................	1.45”.
10. Omit item 6622, insert the following item:—
“6621	Spine (excluding sacrum), transverse process or bone other than vertebral body, not requiring immobilisation in plaster—each attendance (G)..	1.45”.
11. Omit item 6627, insert the following item:—
“6626	Spine (excluding sacrum), vertebral body, without involvement of cord, not requiring immobilisation in plaster—each attendance (G)..................	1.45”.

VARIATIONS OF THE TABLE IN THE SECOND SCHEDULE TO THE ACT

1. Omit the items relating 10 item 1, 4, 44, 201, 204, 3002. 5713, 6101, 6497, 6572, 6577, 6622 and 6627 in the First Schedule to the Act.

2. Insert each of the following items in the appropriate place in the table having regard to the number specified in the first column;—
