REGULATIONS UNDER THE NATIONAL HEALTH ACT 1953-1956.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the National Health Act 1953-1956.

Amendments of the National Health (Pharmaceutical Benefits) Regulations. 

Commencement.

1. These Regulations shall come into operation on the first day of October, 1957.

First Schedule.

2. The First Schedule to the National Health (Pharmaceutical Benefits) Regulations is amended—

(a) by inserting after item 13 the following item:—

“13a

Bismuth Glycollylarsanilate”;

(b) by inserting after item 80 the following item:—

“80a

Mecamylamine”; and

(c) by inserting after item 159 the following item:—

“160

Syntocinon”.

Second Schedule.

3. The Second Schedule to the National Health (Pharmaceutical Benefits) Regulations is amended—

(a) by inserting after item 2 the following item:—

“2a

Calcium Benzoyl Para-Aminosalicylate (B-Pas)

Tuberculosis”;

(b) by adding at the end of item 12, in the column headed “Disease or Purpose”, the following words:—

“Still’s disease in children under the age of 16 years

Ulcerative colitis proven by sigmoidoscopy and radiological report Henoch’s purpura”;

(c) by omitting item 13 and inserting in its stead the following items:—

“13

Cyanocobalamin (strengths other than 1,000 microgramme strength)

Established megalocytic anaemias.

“13a

Cyanocobalamin (1,000 microgramme strength)

Neuroblastoma”;

(d) by inserting after item 26 the following item:—

“26a

Nystatin .. .. ..

Proven monilia infections”; and

(e) by inserting after item 32 the following item:—

“32a

Penicillin with Streptomycin ..

Endocarditis due to streptococcus faecalis

 Endocarditis due to streptococcus viridans”.
