REGULATIONS UNDER THE NATIONAL HEALTH ACT 1953-1957.*

Amendments of the National Health (Pharmaceutical Benefits) Regulations.
“(2.) A medical practitioner may, in respect of a pensioner, prescribe a general pharmaceutical benefit the name or formula of which is specified in item 16, 37, 48, 49, 50, 51 or 53 in the Second Schedule for the treatment of any disease from which the pensioner is suffering.”.
(
“(3.) For the purposes of paragraph (
d )of the last preceding sub-regulation, a prescription for the supply of two or more strengths of a form of a general pharmaceutical benefit the name or formula of which is specified in item 10, 14, 21, 111 or 136 in the First Schedule shall be deemed to prescribe one general pharmaceutical benefit.”; and(
b )by omitting from sub-regulation (4.) the words “the general pharmaceutical benefit Cortisone Acetate, Hydrocortisone, Prednisolone or Prednisone” and inserting in their stead the words and figures “a general pharmaceutical benefit the name or formula of which is specified in item 12, 23, 24, 41, 42, 43 or 44 in the Second Schedule”..

a )by omitting from paragraph (a ) of sub-regulation (1.) the words “may be prescribed as a pharmaceutical benefit only for the treatment of a disease specified” and inserting in their stead the words “,at the time when the prescription was written, could be prescribed as a pharmaceutical benefit only for the treatment of a disease specified at that time”; and(
b )by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the words “an amount equal to” and inserting in their stead the words “such amount (if any) as is determined by the Minister, being an amount not exceeding”.

a )by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the words “The pharmaceutical benefit Cortisone Acetate, Hydrocortisone, Prednisolone or Prednisone” and inserting in their stead the words and figures “A pharmaceutical benefit the name or formula of which is specified in item 12, 23, 24, 41, 42, 43 or 44 in the Second Schedule”; and(
b )by omitting from sub-regulation (4.) the words “Cortisone Acetate, Hydrocortisone, Prednisolone or Prednisone as a pharmaceutical benefit” and inserting in their stead the words and figures “a general pharmaceutical benefit the name or formula of which is specified in item 12, 23, 24, 41, 42, 43 or 44 in the Second Schedule”.
