These Regulations commence on 20 October 1999.
Schedule 1 amends the
National Health Regulations 1954 .

53 Waiting period — applicable benefits arrangement
(1) For subparagraph (j) (iii) in Schedule 1 to the Act, the commencement of a waiting period for the provision of benefits to a contributor, or dependant of a contributor, under an applicable benefits arrangement is the day on which the contributor begins to be a contributor under the applicable benefits arrangement.
(2) For subparagraph (j) (iv) in Schedule 1 to the Act, the following periods are specified as the maximum waiting period for the provision of benefits to a contributor, including a contributor to whom paragraph (bb) in Schedule 1 to the Act applies and a dependant of a contributor, under an applicable benefits arrangement:
(a) for an ailment, illness or condition relating to an obstetric condition — 12 months;
(b) for a pre-existing ailment, within the meaning of paragraph (kc) in Schedule 1 to the Act —12 months;
(c) for an ailment, illness or condition to which paragraph (a) or (b) does not apply — 2 months.
