Determination under subsection 84AG(1) of the National Health Act 1953

I, LINDA JACKSON, Assistant Secretary, Pharmaceutical Evaluation Branch, Department of Health and Ageing, delegate of the Minister for Health and Ageing, make this instrument under subsection 84AG(1) of the National Health Act 1953.

Determination – Drugs in same therapeutic group

1.      Commencement

This instrument commences on 1 September 2009.

2.      Repeal

PB 60 of 2007 is repealed.

3.      Definitions

In this instrument:

ACE inhibitor group means the Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor group;

ATRA group means the Angiotensin II receptor antagonist group;

CCB group means the Dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker group;

H2RA group means the H2 receptor antagonist group;

PPI group means the Proton pump inhibitor group;

Statins group  means the HMG Co-A reductase inhibitor group;

Statins-HP group  means the HMG Co-A reductase inhibitor higher potency group.

4.      Therapeutic group

For paragraph 84AG(1)(a), the HMG Co-A reductase inhibitor higher potency group is a therapeutic group.

Note: Therapeutic groups have also been prescribed by regulation 9AAD of the National Health (Pharmaceutical Benefits) Regulations 1960

5.      Drugs in therapeutic group

For paragraph 84AG(1)(b), a listed drug mentioned in Schedule 1 in all circumstances is in the same therapeutic group mentioned for the listed drug as another listed drug for which that therapeutic group is also mentioned in

Schedule 1.
