An Act to amend the " Municipalities Act" of
1867. [23rd October, 1886.]
| WH E R E A S it is expedient to provide more effectually for | Municipalities Be it therefore enacted by the Queens Most Excellent |
taking
the poll at all contested elections of aldermen or auditors for
Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows :—
1. This Act may be cited as the " Municipalities Act of 1867 Amendment Act of 1886" and shall so far as the Municipalities here inafter referred to arc concerned be read with and as forming part of the "Municipalities Act of 1867" hereinafter termed the Principal Act.
2. This Act shall come into operation in the Municipalities of Alexandria Ashfield Balmain Burwood Campcrdown Canterbury Darlington East Saint Leonards Live Dock Granville Hunters Hill Kogarah Leichhardt Macdonaldtown Manly Marrickville Newtown North Willoughby Paddington Parramatta Petersham Bandwick Bedfern Byde Strathfield Saint Leonards Saint Peters The Glebe Victoria Waterloo Waverley West Botany and Woollahra immediately
I after after the passing thereof and in such other Municipalities and at such dates respectively as the Governor with the advice of the Executive Council shall from time to time appoint by proclamations published
in the Gazette. 3. Every returning officer at all contested elections of aldermen or auditors for the Municipalities hereinbefore referred to may appoint a polling place within the boundaries of the city of Sydney or such other city or place as the Governor shall from time to time appoint in addition to the polling place or places to be appo inted by such return ing officer under the provisions of the Principal Act and thereupon every elector entitled to vote at such election shall be at liberty to vote at such polling place in the city of Sydney or other city or place as aforesaid in lieu of voting at the polling place or places appointed for such election in accordance with the provisions of the Principal Act.
4. At any such polling place so to be appointed as aforesaid the returning officer shall exercise and execute the several powers authorities and duties provided by the Principal Act for carrying into effect contested elections of aldermen or auditors.
5. At every contested election of aldermen or auditors after the passing of this Act the voting shall commence at eight o'clock in the forenoon and shall finally close at five o'clock in the afternoon.
