MOTOR VEHICLES (TAXATION)
MANAGEMENT ACT.
Act No. 76, 1924.
An Act to make further provision for the assessing and collecting taxes upon motor vehicles and trailers ; for the increase of certain fees ; to amend the Metropolitan Traffic Act, 1900, the Motor Traffic Act, 1909, and the Motor Tax Management Act, 1914 ; and for purposes connected therewith. [Assented to, 31st December, 1924.]
BE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, lative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South by and with the advice and consent of the Legis
Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 . This Act may be cited as the "Motor Vehicles (Taxation) Management Act, 1024."
2 . The Motor Tax Management Act, 1914, is amended as follows :—
(a)
By omitting section two and by inserting in lieu thereof the following section :—

In this Act "motor vehicle " means any motor car, motor carriage, motor cycle, or other vehicle propelled upon any public street as defined by the Motor Traffic Act, 1909, wholly or partly by any volatile spirit, steam, gas, oil, or electricity, or by any means other than human or animal power, and includes a trailer, but does not mean or include any vehicle used on a railway or t ramway;

by omitting from section four the word " so " and by inserting in lieu thereof the words " licensed or " ;
(c) by inserting in section five before the word
" reg is t ra t ion" wherever occurring the words " license or " ;
(d)
by inserting in sections six: and seven after the word "horse-power" wherever occurring the words " or weight,"
3 . The Motor Traffic Act, 1909, is amended as
follows:—
(a) (i) By inserting in section two before the definition of the word " Licensed" the following definition :—
"Learner 's pe rmi t " means a permit license issued under the regulations to a person to learn to drive a motor vehicle;
(ii) by omitting from section two the definition of " motor vehicle" and by inserting in lieu thereof the following definition :—
" Motor vehicle " means any motor car, motor carriage, motor cycle, or other vehicle propelled upon any public street wholly or partly by any volatile spirit, steam, gas, oil, or electricity, or by any means other than human or animal power, and includes a trailer, but does not mean or include any vehicle used on a railway or
(b) (i) by omitting from the Schedule the words "five shillings year ly" after the word " L i c e n s e " where it firstly occurs and by inserting in lieu thereof the words " t e n shillings yearly, to be paid on the issue or renewal of the l icense"; tramway ; (ii) by omitting from the Schedule the words " t w o shillings and sixpence" after the word " License " where it secondly occurs and by inserting in lieu thereof the words " five shillings yearly to be paid on the issue or renewal of the license " ;
(iii)
(iii) by adding to the Schedule the following paragraphs :—
Learner ' s pe rmi t—Fee , five shillings to be paid on
the issue of the permit .
Transfer of registrat ion of a motor vehicle—Fee, five shillings, to be paid by the t ransferee upon his application to have a certificate of registrat ion t ransferred to him.
4 . The Metropolitan Traffic Act, 1900, is amended
as follows, by inserting in the Schedule : —
(a) after the word "conductor" the words "of a horse-drawn vehicle " ; and (b) at the end of the Schedule the words and figures— Driver or conductor of a motor vehicle as defined in the Motor Traffic Act , 1909, as subsequently amended ... 0 10 0 year ly .
5 . (1) The owner of a motor vehicle which before the passing of this Act was not required to be registered under the Metropolitan Traffic Act, 1900, or the Motor Traffic Act, 1909, shall before the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-five, register the vehicle under the Motor Traffic Act, 1909
(2) Any person who omits to so register his motor vehicle shall be liable on summary conviction to a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds.
