An Ordinance to amend the Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936
Short title
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Motor Traffic (Amendment) Ordinance (No. 5) 1985.1
Principal Ordinance
2. In this Ordinance, “Principal Ordinance” means the Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936.2
Interpretation
3. Section 149 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting from the definition of “voucher machine” in sub-section (1) “Department of the Capital Territory” and substituting “Registrar of Motor Vehicles”.
4. Section 163C of the Principal Ordinance is repealed and the following section substituted:
Parking fees
“163C. (1) A parking meter installed pursuant to section 163B shall be so adjusted that—
(a)when a coin of a denomination equal to or coins of denominations that are in the aggregate equal to the determined fee is or are inserted in the meter—the meter will display a sign bearing the word ‘expired’ at the end of a period that is not less than the specified period; and
(b)when a coin of a denomination equal to or coins of denominations that are in the aggregate equal to an amount that is a multiple of the determined fee is or are inserted in the meter—the meter will display a sign bearing the word ‘expired’ at the end of a period that is not less than the period calculated by multiplying the specified period by the same multiplier that the determined fee is multiplied by to derive that amount.
“(2) A voucher machine installed pursuant to section 163B shall be so adjusted that—
(a)when a coin of a denomination equal to or coins of denominations that are in the aggregate equal to the determined fee is or are inserted in the machine—one parking voucher is issued; and
(b)when a coin of a denomination equal to or coins of denominations that are in the aggregate equal to an amount that is twice the determined fee is or are inserted in the meter—2 parking vouchers are issued.
“(3) When, pursuant to section 217A, the Minister, by notice in the Gazette, determines a fee for the purposes of sub-section (1), the Minister may, in that notice, specify a period for the purposes of that sub-section.
“(4) In sub-section (1), ‘specified period’ means the period specified pursuant to sub-section (3).”.
