AN ORDINANCE
To amend the Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936.
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Ordinance under the Seat of Government (Administration) Act 1910.

MOTOR TRAFFIC (AMENDMENT) ORDINANCE (No. 2) 1977
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Motor Traffic (Amendment) Ordinance (No. 2) 1977.*
2. In this Ordinance, "Principal Ordinance" means the Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936.f
3. This Ordinance shall come into operation on such date as is fixed by the Minister by notice published in the Gazette.
4. Section 149 of the Principal Ordinance is amended—
(a) by inserting in sub-section ( 1 ) , after the definition of
| 16, 23, 31, 52 and 54, 1976; N o . 16, 1977. |
" certified vehicle ", the following definitions:—
" 'Class A parking meter ' means a parking meter on which there are written the words 'Parking Limit 30 minutes ' or words to the same effect;
'Class B parking meter ' means a parking meter on which there are written the words 'L imi t 1 H o u r ' or words to the same effect;"; and
(b)
by omitting from sub-section (8) the words "twenty-four inches " and substituting the figure and word " 1 metre ".

5 . Section 163B of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting
from paragraph (b) the words " a parking meter" and substitutingthe words " either a Class A parking meter or a Class B parking meter ".
6. Section 163c of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting
sub-section (1) and substituting the following sub-sections:—
" (1) A Class A parking meter installed in pursuance of section
163 B shall be so adjusted that—
(a)
where 1 coin of a denomination of 5 cents has been inserted in the meter, the meter will display a sign bearing the word ' exp i red ' at the expiration of a period of not less than 15 minutes after the insertion of the coin; and
(b) where—
(i) 1 coin of a denomination of 10 cents has been inserted in the meter; or
(ii) 2 coins of a denomination of 5 cents have been inserted in the meter successively,
the meter will display a sign bearing the word ' exp i red ' at the expiration of a period of not less than 30 minutes after the insertion of the coin or coins.
" (1A ) A Class B parking meter installed in pursuance of section
163B shall be so adjusted that—
(a)
where 1 coin of a denomination of 5 cents has been inserted in the meter, the meter will display a sign bearing the word ' exp i red ' at the expiration of a period of not less than 15 minutes after the insertion of the coin;
(b) where—
(i) 1 coin of a denomination of 10 cents has been inserted in the meter; or
(ii) 2 coins of a denomination of 5 cents have been inserted in the meter successively,
the meter will display a sign bearing the word ' exp i red ' at the expiration of a period of not less than 30 minutes
after the insertion of the coin or coins;
(c) where—
(i) 1 coin of a denomination of 10 cents and 1 coin of a denomination of 5 cents have been inserted in the meter successively; or
(ii) 3 coins of a denomination of 5 cents have been inserted in the meter successively,
the meter will display a sign bearing the word ' exp i red ' at the expiration of a period of not less than 45 minutes after the insertion of the coins; and
(d) where—
(i) 2 coins of a denomination of 10 cents have been inserted in the meter successively;
(ii) 1 coin of a denomination of 10 cents and 2 coins of a denomination of 5 cents have been inserted in the meter successively; or
(iii) 4 coins of a denomination of 5 cents have been inserted in the meter successively,
the meter will display a sign bearing the word ' exp i red ' at the expiration of a period of not less than 1 hour after the insertion of the coins.".
7. Section 163E of the Principal Ordinance is amended by inserting in sub-section ( 3 ) , after the words " n o t being a" , the word " designated ".
