Motor Traffic (Amendment) Ordinance 1988

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Ordinance under the Seat of Government (Administration) Act 1910.

An Ordinance to amend the Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936
Short title
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Motor Traffic (Amendment) Ordinance 1988.1
Principal Ordinance
2. In this Ordinance, “Principal Ordinance” means the Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936.2
Licences for public motor vehicles
3. Section 27 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by inserting in paragraph (1) (b) “, on payment of the determined fee,” after “omnibus” (first occurring).
Insertion
4. After section 133A of the Principal Ordinance the following section is inserted:
Road tunnels—vehicles carrying explosives
“133B. (1) A person shall not drive or park an explosives vehicle in, directly above, or within 50 metres of either end of, a major road tunnel.
Penalty: $1,000.
“(2) In subsection (1)—
‘explosives vehicle’ means a vehicle on which a sign is required to be exhibited pursuant to clause 189 of the Dangerous Goods Regulation, 1978 of the State of New South Wales in its application in the Territory by virtue of the Dangerous Goods Ordinance 1984;
‘major road tunnel’ means—
(a)the road tunnel on Parkes Way between Lawson Crescent and Clunies Ross Street in the Division of Acton, Canberra Central District; and
(b)the road tunnel on Capital Circle in the Division of Capital Hill, Canberra Central District.”.
