AN ORDINANCE

Relating to Motor Traffic.

1 THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth , of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Ordinance under the Seat of
Government (Administration) Act 1910-1970.

MOTOR TRAFFIC ORDINANCE 1972

1.—(1.) This Ordinance may be cited as the Motor Traffic

Ordinance 1972.*

(2.) The Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936-197If is in this Ordinance

referred to as the Principal Ordinance.

(3.) The Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordinance,

may be cited as the Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936-1972.

2. Section 7 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by inserting in sub-section (2 . ) , after the words "requirements of" (first occurring), the words " Part I. of ".

3.   Section 7A of the Principal Ordinance is amended—

(a)

by inserting in sub-section (1 . ) , after the word " section ", the words " and Part II. of the Second Schedule ";

(b)

by inserting in sub-section (2.), after the words "this section ", the words " and Part II. of the Second Schedule ";

(c)

by omitting paragraph (c) of sub-section (2.) and inserting in its stead the following paragraph: —

" (c) a reference to a design rule in Part II. of the Second Schedule shall be read as a reference to such a design rule as in force on the first day of January, One thousand nine hundred and seventy-two;":

by omitting sub-section (3.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-section:—

" (3.) Without limiting the generality of the last pre­ ceding section, the Registrar may refuse to register or renew the registration of a motor vehicle specified in the second column of Part II. of the Second Schedule unless the motor vehicle complies with the condition or condi­ tions set out in the third column of that Schedule in rela­ tion to that motor vehicle.";

(e)

by omitting from sub-section (5.) the words " sub-section (3.) of this section " and inserting in their stead the words " Part II. of the Second Schedule "; and

(/) by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-section (6.) the
words "sub-section (3.) of this section" and inserting in

their stead the words " Part II. of the Second Schedule ".

4 . Section 181 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by inserting

after the words " prescribed by " the words " Part I. of ".

5 . — ( 1 . ) The Second Schedule to the Principal Ordinance is

amended by omitting the words—

" M O T O R V E H I C L E S .
Conditions to be complied with before a Motor Vehicle is registered."

and inserting in their stead the words—

" P A R T I. S e c t i o n 7.

( 2 . ) The Second Schedule is amended by adding at the end thereof

the following Part :—
