MOTOR TRAFFIC

No. 2 of 1968

An Ordinance to amend the Motor Traffic Ordinance

1936-1966.

1.—(1.) This Ordinance may be cited as the Motor Traffic

Ordinance 1968.*

(2.) The Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936-19661 is in this Ordinance

referred to as the Principal Ordinance.

(3.) The Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordinance, may

be cited as the Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936-1968.

2.   Section 4 of the Principal Ordinance is amended—

(a)

by omitting paragraphs (c) and (d) from the definition of "visiting motor vehicle" in sub-section (1.) and inserting in their stead the following word and paragraph:—

" ; and (c) which is brought into the Territory tem­

porarily,"; and

(b) by omitting from paragraph (iii) of that definition the words " paragraphs (b), (c) and (d)" and inserting in their stead the words " paragraphs (b) and (c)".

3.   Section 9 of the Principal Ordinance is amended—

(a)

by omitting from sub-section (1.) the words " two months " and inserting in their stead the words " three months "; and

(b)

by omitting from paragraph (b) of that sub-section the words " seventeen years " and inserting in their stead the words " sixteen years and nine months ".

4. Section 98 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting from sub-section (2.) the words "Twenty-five cents" and inserting in their stead the words " Fifty cents ".

5. Section 105 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by inserting

after sub-section (1.) the following sub-section:—
" (1A.) Subject to this section, a licence to drive a motor vehicle (other than a taxi, private hire car or motor omnibus plying for hire) and a renewal of such a licence shall, unless cancelled or suspended, be in force for a period of one, two or three years, as the Registrar specifies in the licence, from and including the date of the grant or renewal of the licence, as the case may be.".

6. Section 140 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting

the definition of " the City Area " and inserting in its stead the following
definition:—

" ' the City Area' means the area having the same boundaries as the boundaries specified in the Schedule to the notice made under section 4 of the City Area Leases Ordinance 1936-1964 on the twenty-second day of November, One thousand nine hundred and sixty-six, and published in the Gazette on the eighth day of December, One thousand nine hundred and sixty-six.".

7 . Section 143 of the Principal Ordinance is repealed and the fol­

lowing section inserted in its stead:—
" 143. Subject to the next succeeding section, the maximum speed applicable in relation to a public street in the City Area is thirty-five miles per hour.".

8. Section 144 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting

the words " elsewhere than in the City Area ".

9 . Section 148 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by inserting

in paragraphs (a) and (b), after the word " is " (wherever occurring),
the words " or was at a specified date ".

1 0 . Section 159 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting from sub-sections (4.), (5.), (6.) and (7.) the words "the Commis­ sioner of Police " (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words " the Registrar ".

1 1 . Section 162 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting from sub-section (7.) the words " the Commissioner of Police " (where- ever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words " the Registrar ".

1 2 . The First Schedule to the Principal Ordinance is amended by

omitting clause 4 and inserting in its stead the following clause:—

" 4 . (a) Licence or renewal of a licence to drive a motor vehicle, other than a

motor vehicle referred to in sub-clause (b) of this clause—

(i) for a period of one year . . 1.00
(ii) for a period of two years . . . . 2.00
(iii) for a period of three years . . 3.00
(b) Licence or renewal of a licence to drive a taxi, a private hire car or a
motor omnibus plying for hire . . . . . . 2.00
(c) Where a licence is in respect of a licensed goods motor vehicle or a motor vehicle licensed to carry workmen to and from their work, in
addition . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.25".
