Regulation under the Motor Sports (World Rally Championship) Act 2009.

Explanatory note

The object of this Regulation is to enable the conduct of rounds of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile World Rally Championship (rally events) to be authorised during a 5-year period beginning on 1 July 2018 and ending on 30 June 2023. (It is anticipated that rounds will be held in 2018, 2019 and 2020.) Section 4 of the Motor Sports (World Rally Championship) Act 2009 provides for the Minister to make an order declaring an area within the Northern Rivers region or another prescribed region as one within which a rally event may be conducted and designating the period during which a rally event may be conducted. However, section 4 (4) of that Act provides that an order may not enable the conduct of a rally event after the year 2017 unless the regulations authorise that. A Ministerial order will still be required to declare a rally area or a rally period during the specified 5-year period.

This Regulation is made under the Motor Sports (World Rally Championship) Act 2009, including sections 4 (4) and 24 (the general regulation-making power).

1      Name of Regulation

This Regulation is the Motor Sports (World Rally Championship) Amendment
Regulation 2018.

2      Commencement

This Regulation commences on 1 July 2018 and is required to be published on the
NSW legislation website.

Clause 5A

Insert after clause 5:

5A Conduct of rally events

For the purposes of section 4 (4) of the Act, the conduct of a rally event during the period beginning on 1 July 2018 and ending on 30 June 2023 is authorised.

Note. Section 4 of the Act provides for the Minister to make an order declaring

an area within the Northern Rivers region or another prescribed region as one within which a rally event may be conducted and designating the period during which a rally event may be conducted. This clause authorises the making of an order that designates a period during the 5 years from 1 July 2018.
