GORDON SAMUELS, Governor I, the Honourable Gordon Samuels AC, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Motor Accidents Compensation Act 1999, do, by this my Proclamation:
| (a) | appoint 13 September 1999 as the day on which the following provisions of that Act commence: | |
| ||
| (ii) Part 2.3, (iii) sections 228 and 232, and clauses 2, 4 (3), 13 and 14 of Schedule 5, | ||
| (b) | appoint the day on which the Traffic Act 1909 is repealed by the Road Transport Legislation Amendment Act 1999 as the day on which items [1] and [3] of Schedule 4.9 to the Motor Accidents Compensation Act 1999 commence, | |
| (c) | appoint 5 October 1999 as the day on which the remainder of the Motor Accidents Compensation Act 1999 (except section 61 (6)) commences. |

| Explanatory note |
The object of this proclamation is to provide for the commencement of the Motor Accidents Compensation Act 1999. The proclamation commences provisions of the Act relating to the setting of third-party insurance premiums and to the reconstitution of the Motor Accidents Authority Board on 13 September 1999, and the remainder of the Act on 5 October 1999 except a provision relating to certificates of medical assessments and consequential changes following the repeal of the Traffic Act 1909. Clause 1 (2) of Schedule 5 to the Act provides that a reference to the commencement of the Act is to be read as a reference to the commencement of the majority of the provisions of the Act, namely, 5 October 1999.
