The Parliament of Australia enacts:
This Act may be cited as the
Ministers of State and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2000 .
(1) Subject to subsection (2), this Act commences on a day to be fixed by Proclamation.
(2) If this Act does not commence under subsection (1) within the period of 6 months beginning on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent, it commences on the first day after the end of that period.
Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.
Schedule 1 — Amendment of the Ministers of State Act 1952
Repeal the section, substitute:
The number of the Ministers of State must not exceed:
(a) in the case of those designated, when appointed by the Governor‑General, as Parliamentary Secretary—12; and
(b) in the case of those not so designated—30.
Omit “$1,622,000”, substitute “$2,300,000”.
Repeal the Act.
The repeal of the
Parliamentary Secretaries Act 1980 does not affect the amendments made by section 5 of that Act.Note: However, some of the amendments are affected by Schedule 3 to this Act.
Repeal the paragraph.
Repeal the subsection.
Omit “(other than a determination under subsection (1A))”.
Omit “(1A),”.
Repeal the subsection.
Schedule 4 — Amendment of the Freedom of Information Act 1982
Repeal the definition.
