r igh t s and mine ra l licenses respect ively, and as to t he periods for WH E R E A S it is expedien t to a l ter and amend the provisions of t he M i n i n g Ac t , 1871 , as to t he sums to he paid for miners '

which t h e same m a y he issued : Be it therefore enacted b y t h e Queen ' s Mos t Exce l l en t Majesty, by and wi th t he advice and consent of t h e Legis la t ive Council and Legislat ive Assembly of N e w South W a l e s

in Pa r l i amen t assembled, a n d by t h e au tho r i t y of t he same, as

fo l lows :—

1. This A c t m a y be cited as the " M i n i n g A c t A m e n d m e n t A c t

of 1896 . "

2. N o t w i t h s t a n d i n g a n y t h i n g to t h e cont rary conta ined in t h e

M i n i n g Act , 1874, t h e s u m to be paid for a mine r ' s r i gh t or mine ra l l icense shall be five shi l l ings for one year or two shil l ings and sixpence for s ix m o n t h s ; and such mine r ' s r igh t or minera l l icense shal l be a n d con t inue in force for one year or for six m o n t h s , as t he case m a y be, f rom the date of issue.

3 . I n addi t ion to t h e r igh t s and privi leges now conferred upon

t h e holders of mine r s ' r i gh t s issued u n d e r t he provisions of t h e M i n i n g

A c t of 1871 , every such miner ' s r i g h t shall confer on t he holder thereof t h e same r igh t s and privi leges in respect of or in connect ion wi th m i n i n g for minera ls o ther t h a n gold as are conferred on the holders of

minera l l icenses in respect of m i n i n g for such minerals .

1. N o t w i t h s t a n d i n g a n y t h i n g to t he contrary in t h e M i n i n g

Act , 1871 , or any regula t ion thereunder , the b u t t shown in the form prescr ibed by a n y Schedules to t he said A c t or a n y regu la t ion there ­ unde r shal l n o t be deemed to have been or to be pa r t of a mine r ' s r igh t , business license, or mine ra l license issued before or after t h e com­ m e n c e m e n t of th i s Ac t . A n d no mine r ' s r igh t , business license, or mine ra l l icense so issued as aforesaid shal l be deemed to have been or to be invalid by reason of such miner ' s r igh t , business license, or minera l license no t inc luding any b u t t as aforesaid.
