Mining Act 1992 Mining (General) Amendment (Description of Land) Regulation 2000 (2000-209) [GG No 62 of 26.5.2000, p 4252] (NSW)
2000 No 209
| Mining (General) Amendment | New South Wales |
(Description of Land) Regulation 2000
under the
Mining Act 1992
His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Mining Act 1992.
EDWARD OBEID, M.L.C.,
Minister for Mineral Resources
Explanatory note
At present, clause 11 of the Mining (General) Regulation 1997 requires an application for an exploration licence under the Mining Act 1992 in relation to a Group 9 mineral (coal or oil shale) to be accompanied by (among other things) a description of the land over which the licence is sought in the form of “a standard map showing the co-ordinates (either by reference to Integrated Survey Grid co- ordinates or by reference to latitude and longitude) of all points where there is a change in direction of the boundaries of the land”. Clauses 12 and 13 of that Regulation make the same requirement in respect of applications for assessment leases for coal and mining leases for coal.
The object of this Regulation is to amend clauses 11, 12 and 13 so as to require, instead, that the co-ordinates be shown either by reference to Map Grid of Australia co-ordinates or, if the co-ordinates are determined by reference to latitude and longitude, that the points of latitude and longitude are determined by reference to the Geocentric Datum of Australia.
This Regulation is made under the Mining Act 1992 and, in particular, under sections 13 (3) (a), 33 (3) (a), 51 (3) (a) and 388 (the general regulation-making power).

Geocentric Datum of Australia has the same meaning as it has in section 4 of the Survey (Geocentric Datum of Australia) Act 1999.
Map Grid of Australia means a rectangular co-ordinate system using a Transverse Mercator projection with zones 6 degrees wide and based on the Geocentric Datum of Australia.
