“35a.—(1.) Where a member posted for service in the New Guinea area is entitled to district allowance under the last preceding regulation in respect of service in that area, an allowance, called ‘territory allowance’, is payable to the member from and including the day on which he arrives in that area to and including the day immediately preceding the day on which he ceases to reside in that area or the day on which he is posted for service outside that area, whichever is the later day, at the appropriate rate per day specified in the Fourth Schedule to these Regulations having regard to his rank, classification and marital condition and whether or not his family are also residing in the New Guinea area.
“(2.)
For the purposes of the last preceding sub-regulation and the Fourth Schedule
to these Regulations, ‘family’ has the same meaning as in
(2.) Territory allowance is payable, in accordance with the regulation inserted in the Military Financial Regulations by the last preceding sub-regulation, in respect of service in the New Guinea area on and after the fourth day of November, 1963.
“78a.—(1.) Subject to the next succeeding sub-regulation, where a member who has been posted to the New Guinea area under a posting that was intended to be for a period of not less than three years—
(
(
b )travels from that area for the purpose of spending the period, or part of the period, of that leave outside that area,
the fares of the member, and of any member of the family of the member who travels with him, to and from the nearest capital city are payable by the Department.
“(2.) Where the fares of a member, or of a member and members of his family, have been paid by the Department under the last preceding sub-regulation in respect of travel during a period of recreation leave granted during the period of the member's posting in the New Guinea area, the fares of the member or of any member of his family are not payable under that sub-regulation in respect of travel during any other period of recreation leave granted to the member during the period of that posting.”.

a )by omitting the words “two preceding” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the words “three preceding”; and(
b )by inserting in sub-regulation (1.), after the word “Australia”, the words “or, if serving in the New Guinea area, to any other place in Australia or elsewhere”.

(2.) The allowance provided for by sub-regulation (2.) of regulation 171 of the Military Financial Regulations is payable at the rate prescribed by that sub-regulation as amended by the last preceding sub-regulation in respect of service as Secretary to the Conference of Chaplains-General on and after the first day of July, 1963.

The rate of pay specified in relation to an appointment in Table 1 of the Third Schedule to the Military Financial Regulations as amended by the last preceding sub-regulation (other than the appointments of Citizen Military Forces Member of the Military Board and Divisional Commander or equivalent) apply in relation to service in that appointment on or after the first day of July, 1963.
