METROPOLITAN WATER SUPPLY, SEWERAGE AND DRAINAGE

AMENDMENT BY-LAWS (NO. 2) 1993

Made by the Water Authority of Western Australia with the approval of the

Minister for Water Resources.

Citation

1. These by-laws may be cited as the Metropolitan Water Supply, Sewerage

and Drainage Amendment By-laws (No. 2) 1993.

Principal by-laws

2. In these by-laws the Metropolitan Water Supply, Sewerage and Drainage

By-laws 1981* are referred to as the principal by-Taws.

Heading to by-law 10.0 amended

3. The heading to by-law 10.0 of the principal by-laws is amended by

deleting "(Implementation of Part 10 requires special Board approval)".

By-laws 10.1 to 10.11 repealed and new by-laws substituted

4. By-laws 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8, 10.9, 10.10 and 10.11 of the principal by-laws are repealed and the following by-laws are substituted —

10.1 INTERPRETATION

10.1.1 In this by-law and in by-law 10.2 "AS 3500.1 — 1992" means the publication entitled "AS 3500.1 — 1992, National Plumbing and Drainage Code, Part 1: Water supply" published by the Standards Association of Australia.

10.1.2 Notwithstanding anything in AS 3500.1 — 1992, for the

purposes of by-law 10.2

(a) a reference in Section 4 of AS 3500.1 — 1992 to —
(i) "regulatory authority" shall be taken to be a
(b) Clause 4.2.3 of AS 3500.1 — 1992 shall be read as if "authorized by the regulatory authority" had been deleted;
(c) Clause 4.5 of AS 3500.1 — 1992 shall be read as if "and be subject to the approval of the relevant regulatory authority" had been deleted; and
(d) a reference in Section 7 of AS 3500.1 — 1992 to —
(i) a "Type B irrigation system" shall be taken to be a reference to an irrigation system described in Clause 7.2 (b) of AS 3500.1 — 1992 that is subject to, or is likely to be subject to, flooding or ponding;

reference to the Authority; and

(ii) "water service" or "water supply system" shall

be taken to be a reference to a water supply
system within the meaning of these by-laws;

(ii) a "Type C irrigation system" shall be taken to be a reference to an irrigation system described in Clause 7.2 (c) of AS 3500.1 — 1992 that is subject to, or is likely to be subject to, flooding or ponding.

10.2 ADOPTION OF PROVISIONS OF AS 3500.1 — 1992

For the purposes of cross connection control and backflow prevention —

(a) a water supply system shall be designed, installed and maintained in accordance with the requirements of Section 4 (other than Clause 4.2.5) of AS 3500.1 — 1992;
(b) an irrigation system shall be categorized, installed and maintained in accordance with the requirements of Section 7 of AS 3500.1— 1992; and
(c) an alternative water supply shall not be connected to a water supply system unless an appropriate backflow prevention device is fitted in accordance with the requirements of Clause 4.5 of AS 3500.1 — 1992.
