An Act to further facilitate the adoption of the metric system of measurement; to amend the Metric Conversion Act, 1974, in certain respects and to amend references to physical quantities in certain other Acts; to validate certain matter; and for purposes connected therewith. [Assented to, 6th November, 1975.]

BE it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 . This Act may be cited as the "Metric Conversion Act,
1975".
(1 ) The provisions of this Act, section 5 excepted, are for the purpose of metric conversion.

(2) Notwithstanding anything in this Act, an amend ment referred to in Items 10 to 24, both inclusive, does not, where the Minister administering the Public Works Act, 1912, so directs, apply in respect of a work that, immediately before the commencement of the Item that relates to that amendment, was an authorised work within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1912.
(1) In this Act, sections 5 and 6 excepted, or in an instrument made for the purpose of this Act, a reference to an Item or Item number, however expressed, is a reference to a number, in the column headed "Item No." in Column 2 of the Schedule and the provision of that Schedule set forth

opposite that number. (2) In sections 5 and 6, a reference to an Item, followed by a number, is a reference to a number in the column headed "Item No." in Column 2 of the Schedule to the Metric Conversion Act, 1974, and the provision of that Schedule set forth opposite that Item and number.
4. (1) This section and sections 1, 2 and 3 shall commence on the date of assent to this Act.
(2) Sections 5 and 6 shall be deemed to have commenced on 1st July, 1974.
(3) The provisions of section 7, in so far as they effect an amendment specified by an Item in the Schedule, and of that Item, shall commence on such day as may be appointed by the Governor in respect of that Item, whether by reference to that Item or otherwise, and as may be notified by proclamation published in the Gazette.
(1) The Metric Conversion Act, 1974, is amended by
inserting in section 11 after the word "district" the words "or
a provisional district".

(2) Any act, matter or thing done in relation to the number of water rights (within the meaning of section 130 of the Water Act, 1912, immediately before the amendment of that section by Item 441) which, immediately before the day on which Item 441 commenced were attached to a holding within a provisional district constituted under Part VI of the Water Act, 1912, shall be as valid and effective as it would have been had this section been in force at the time the act, matter or thing was done.
6. The Metric Conversion Act, 1974, is further
amended—
(a) by omitting from Item 182 the matter " (1A ) ( c ) . " ; (b)
by inserting in Column 2 after Item 182 the following matter :—

Each Act specified in Column 1 of the Schedule is amended in the provision of that Act specified opposite thereto in the column headed "Provision of Act." in Column 2 of the Schedule—

by omitting from that provision the matter specified opposite that provision in the column headed "Matter to be omitted." in Column 2 of the Schedule, other than such matter, if any, as appears in brackets and is printed in italics; and
(b)
by inserting instead the matter specified opposite that provision in the column headed "Matter to be inserted " in Column 2 of the Schedule.
