An Act to amend

The Mercantile Law Amendnler~t Act, 1861."

HEREAS by

The Mercantile Law Amendment Act, l861 ," Prea,l!ble.

\V it is enacted that " no acceptance of any Bill of Exchange,

whether inland or foreign,madc after the thirty-first day of December,

one thousand eight hundred arid sixty-one shall be sufficient to bind

OF charge any persnn, unless the same be in writing on such Bill, or,

if there be more than one part of such Bill on one of t11c said parts, and signed by the acceptor or some person duly authorised by

him ;" arid whereas doubts haw arisen as to the trnc cffect and intention of the said Act, and as to whether the signature of the drawee alone can constitutc a sufficient acceptance, SO as to satisfy the requiremcnts thereof-Re it therefore Enacted bp the Governor of the Provincc of South Australia, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly of the said province, ia this present Parliament assembled, as follows;

the drawee written on such Bill.
