Members of Parliament (Staff) Regulations

I, THE DEPUTY OF THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984.

Citation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Members of Parliament (Staff) Regulations.

Commencement

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on 1 September 1984.

Interpretation

3. In these Regulations, “the Act” means the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984.

Appropriate organizations for the purposes of paragraph 27 (1) (c) of the Act

4. (1) For the purposes of paragraph 27 (1) (c) of the Act, the appropriate organization to nominate a person is an organization—

(a) registered under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1904; and

(b) subject to sub-regulation (2), for which the person to be nominated is eligible for membership.

(2) Where a person referred to in sub-regulation (1) is eligible for membership of more than one organization referred to in that sub-regulation, the appropriate organization is the organization having among its members the larger or largest number of officers having the same or equivalent classification as that of that person.
