t he Town of Melbourne wi thin the Colony of New South "Wales to be thencefor th a City and to be called t h e City of Melbourne and it has in consequence become expedient and necessary to m a k e a correspond­ ing change in t he n a m e style and t i t le of the body corporate and politic of t he said City of Me lbourne cons t i tu ted under and by virtue; of the A c t of t he Governor and Legislative Council of N e w South Wales passed in t he s ix th year of H e r Majesty 's re ign in t i tu led "An Act to incorporate the Inhabitants of the Town of Melbourne''' Be it therefore enacted by H i s Excel lency the Governor of New South Wales with t h e advice and consent of t he Legislat ive Council thereof Tha t from and after t he pass ing of th is Act t he n a m e style and t i t le of t he said body corporate and polit ic shall be the " M a y o r Alde rmen Coun­ cillors and Citizens of t h e City of Melbourne " and t h a t unde r such n a m e style and t i t le t hey shall have all and the like r igh t s privileges and immuni t i e s as have been heretofore possessed by t h e m u n d e r t he style and t i t le of t h e " Mayor Aldermen Councillors and Burgesses of the Town of Melbourne . "

A n d be i t enacted Tha t whenever in any Act Law or S ta tu te or in any Deed of Gran t or in any Proc lamat ion or other Pub l i c Docu­ m e n t or Notice or in any proceeding of wha t k ind or n a t u r e soever t he Town of Me lbou rne or t he Burgesses thereof have been or are referred to or ment ioned such reference or ment ion shall be t aken to signify and m e a n t h e City of Melbourne or the Citizens thereof as t he case may be.
