The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1Short title

This Act may be cited as the Medicare Levy Amendment Act 1998.

2Commencement

  1. (1)

    Subject to subsection (2), this Act is taken to have commenced on 1 July 1997.

  2. (2)

    Items 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Schedule 1 are taken to have commenced on 1 July 1997, immediately after the commencement of Part 2 of Schedule 1 to, and Schedule 2 to, the Medicare Levy Amendment Act (No. 1) 1997.

3Schedule(s)

Subject to section 2, each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.

Schedule 1Amendment of the Medicare Levy Act 1986
