MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS (AMENDMENT) ACT.
Act No. 29, 1950.
An Act to amend the Medical Practitioners Act, 1938-1946, in certain respects; and for purposes connected therewith. [Assented to, 27th October, 1950.]
BE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty,
by and with the advice and consent of the Legis
lative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South
Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of
the same, as follows:—
1 . (1) This Act may be cited as the "Medical
Practitioners (Amendment) Act, 1950."
(2) The Medical Practitioners Act, 1938, as amended by subsequent Acts and by this Act, may be cited as the Medical Practitioners Act, 1938-1950.
2. (1) The Medical Practitioners Act, 1938-1946, is
amended—
(a) by omitting subsection six of section eighteen;
(b) by omitting subsection one of section twenty and by inserting in lieu thereof the following subsection :—
(a) is entitled to be registered; or (b)
(1) When a person has applied to be registered, the president, or, in his absence from the City of Sydney, any other member of the board authorised generally in that behalf by the board, upon being satisfied that such person:—
(b) (i) is justly entitled to a degree (granted after due examination) in medicine or surgery of any University in the Commonwealth of Australia which is legally authorised to grant such degree;
(ii) will have such degree conferred upon him in due course according to the practice of the University in question in conferring degrees; and
(iii) is of good character;
may, on payment of the registration fee required by section thirty-two of this Act, grant to such person a certificate of provisional registration in the prescribed form.
(2) The Medical Practitioners Act, 1938-1946, is
further amended:—
(a) by omitting from subsection two of section 17A the words "The provisions of subsection six of section eighteen of this Act shall not apply to or in respect of a person who proves that he possesses the qualification referred to in subsection one of this section"; (b) by omitting from subsection three of section 17B the words "The provisions of subsection
six of section eighteen of this Act shall not apply to or in respect of a person who proves that he possesses the qualifications referred
to in subsection two of this section."
