Regulation 2006

Medical Practice Act 1992

Her Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Medical Practice Act 1992.

Explanatory note
The object of this Regulation is to amend the Medical Practice Regulation 2003:

(a) to ensure that certain references to Australian and New Zealand standards also refer to those standards as in force from time to time, and
(b) to provide that hands may be cleaned by using non-water cleansers or antiseptics, whether or not washing facilities involving water and a soap or antiseptic are available.

This Regulation is made under the Medical Practice Act 1992, including section 194 (the general regulation-making power).

1      Name of Regulation

This Regulation is the Medical Practice Amendment Regulation 2006.

2      Commencement

This Regulation commences on 31 March 2006.

3 Amendment of Medical Practice Regulation 2003

The Medical Practice Regulation 2003 is amended as set out in
Schedule 1.

(Clause 3)

[1]      Schedule 1 Infection control standards

Omit “if any of the items specified in paragraph (a) are unavailable,” from clause 3 (3) (b).

[2]      Schedule 1, clause 12

Insert “, as in force from time to time” after “facilities” in the definition of
AS/NZS 4187.

[3]      Schedule 1, clause 12

Insert “, as in force from time to time” after “environment” in the definition of
AS/NZS 4815.
