270 ANNO VICESIMO SECUNDO ELIZA ET AE SECUN DAE REG AE No. 30 of 19 73 An Act to a m end the Medical Act 1939-1971 in certain particulars [ASSENTED TO 19TH APRIL, 1973] BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- 1. Short title and citation . (1) This Act may be cited as the Medical Act Amendment Act 1973. (2) The Medical Act 1939-1971 is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act. (3) The Principal Act as amended by this Act may be cited as the Medical Act1939-1973.

Section 19 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting subsection (2) and inserting in its stead the following subsection:- " (2) A person whose application for registration as a medical practitioner depends partly on the qualification referred to in paragraph (b) of subsection (1) shall not be entitled to be so registered unless- (a) the professors of medicine, surgery, and obstetrics of the University of Queensland are satisfied, by oral and clinical examinations arranged or approved by them and conducted in the English language, of his knowledge, skill and ability to practise medicine efficiently in Queensland and they certify to the Board accordingly; or (b) the Board, by its certificate, exempts him from the application of paragraph (a) by reason of the fact that he has proved to the Board's satisfaction- (i) that subsequently to his obtaining the primary degree, diploma or certificate that he holds, he has completed a post-graduate course in a specialty and in respect thereof holds a degree or diploma, approved by the Board, of a university or other institution that is recognised by the Board as authorised to grant that degree or diploma; and (ii) that he has the knowledge, skill and ability to practise medicine efficiently in Queensland.".
