Meat Industry (Amendment) Regulations 2002
The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1. Objectives
The objectives of these Regulations are
(a)
to prohibit the slaughter and sale of horse and donkey meat for human consumption;
(b)
to amend the description and specification of the strip brand for lamb meat.
2. Authorising provision
These Regulations are made under section 78 of the Meat Industry Act 1993.
3. Commencement
(1) These Regulations, except regulation 5, come into operation on the day after the day on which these Regulations are made.
(2) Regulation 5 comes into operation on 1 December
2002.

4. Definition of marketing information
In regulation 6 of the Meat Industry Regulations
19941 insert' "marketing information" includes
(a) use of the term lamb;
(b) the name of the owner of the lamb;
(c)
the name of the relevant meat processing facility;
(d)
the name of the client of the owner of the lamb;
(e) the area where the lamb was produced;
(f)
a logo, trademark, marketing name or trading name of the owner of the lamb, the relevant meat processing facility, the area where the lamb was produced or any marketing alliance;
(g) the quality grade of the meat;'.
5. New regulation 19A inserted
After regulation 19 of the Meat Industry
Regulations 1994 insert
"19A. Ban on slaughter and sale of horse and
donkey meat for human consumption
(1) For the purposes of section 35(7) of the Act,
the following consumable animals are
prescribed
(a) horse;
(b) donkey.
(2) A person must not sell for human
consumption meat from a horse or a donkey.
Penalty: 10 penalty units.".

6. Amendment to description and specification of strip brand for lamb meat
(1) In regulation 29(2) of the Meat Industry
Regulations 1994, after "sub-regulation (1)" insert
"other than those referred to in sub-regulation(1)(a),".
(2) In regulation 29(4) of the Meat Industry
Regulations 1994—
(a) omit "other"; and
(b) after "facility" insert "at least once every 15⋅0 cm".
(3) After regulation 29(4) of the Meat Industry
Regulations 1994, insert
"(5) The strip brand referred to in sub-regulation
(4) may include additional marketing
information within the continuous parallellines.".
(4) In regulation 32(c) of the Meat Industry
Regulations 1994, for "4⋅0 cm" substitute
"6⋅0 cm".
