MEAT INDUSTRY ACT 1978 - REGULATION

(Prohibiting the use of asbestos cement in abattoirs and

other premises licensed under the Meat Industry Act 1978)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Meat Industry Act 1978, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

The Meat Industry (Licensing) Regulation 1980 is amended by omitting from item 15 (a) (ii) of Schedule 1, items 5 (a) (ii) and 8 of Part A of Schedule 3, item 10 of Part B of Schedule 3, items 5 (a) (ii) and 8 of Part C of Schedule 3, item 9 of Schedule 4, item 10 of Part A of Schedule 7 and items 5 (a) (ii) and 8 of Part B of Schedule 7 the words "asbestos cement" wherever occurring and by inserting instead the words "fibro cement sheeting".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Regulation is to amend the Meat Industry (Licensing)

Regulation 1980 so as to replace provisions allowing the use of asbestos cement in abattoirs, meat processing plants, meat markets and animal food processing plants with provisions allowing the use of fibro cement sheeting. The amendment will effectively prohibit the use of asbestos cement in such premises.
