An Act to amend an Act intituled "An Act to
prevent cattle being driven through the

WH E R E A S it is expedient to empower tlie Mun ic ipa l of E a s t and "West Mai t l and to r egu la t e w i th in t he l imits of

Councils

the i r respect ive Municipal i t ies t he dr iv ing of ca t t le and for t h a t purpose

to repeal t he A c t fifteenth Victoria n u m b e r n ine Be i t therefore enacted

by the Queen ' s Mos t Exce l l en t Majes ty by and wi th t h e advice and

consent of t h e Legis la t ive Council and Legis la t ive Assembly of N e w

South Wales in Pa r l i amen t assembled and by t h e au thor i ty of t he

same as follows:—

1. The A c t fifteen Victoria n u m b e r n ine in t i tu led " An Act to

prevent cattle being driven through the Towns of East and Wed

Maitland except at certain hours" shal l be he reby repealed on and from

the first day of M a y nex t following b u t such repeal shal l be w i thou t prejudice to any convict ion had or j)roceedings t aken the reunde r before

t he commencemen t of th i s Act .

2. I t shal l be lawful for t h e Munic ipa l Council of Eas t Mai t ­

land and for t he Mun ic ipa l Counci l of W e s t Ma i t l and to f rame	by-laws
for the purpose of r egu la t i ng wi th in t he boundar ies of the i r	respective
Munic ipa l i t ies t h e passage of cat t le intended	for sale s laughte r or

sh ipmen t or conveyance by ra i l a n d such by-laws m a y prescr ibe

penal t ies n o t exceeding twen ty shil l ings for every head of ca t t l e dr iven

in con t raven t ion thereof a n d m a y provide for t h e due enforcement a n d

appl icat ion thereof B u t all such by-laws shall be subject to the con­ dit ions a n d other provisions relat ive to by-laws contained in t he

" Municipal i t ies A c t of 1867 ."

3 . I n t h e const ruct ion a n d for t h e purposes of th is A c t t he

word " c a t t l e " includes bu l l s bul locks cows heifers and steers A n d

no th ing in th i s A c t or in any by- law to be m a d e the reunder shall
