I )E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, _) by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- Short title 1. This Act may be Cited as "The Main Roads :~ struction. Act Amendment Act of 1922," and shall be read as one with *" The Main Roads Act of 1920," herein referred to as the Principal Act. The following amendments are made in section ~ me~ ~ enl twenty-seven of the Principal Act:- 0 B. • (i.) In the first paragraph of subsection one, the words "thirtieth day of June" are repealed, and the words" thirty-first day of December" are inserted in lieu thereof; also after the word" maintenance," where it first occurs, the words "during the preceding year" are repealed, and the words "during the year ending on the thirtieth day of June in the same year, except as herein- after provided " are inserted in lieu thereof. In the second paragraph of the said subsection, the word" January" is repealed, and the word" July" is inserted in lieu thereof. The following provision is inserted in the said paragraph after subparagraph (c) thereof : - "For the purpose of making any such apportionment the amount expended as aforesaid on permanent works apart from maintenance shall bear interest at a rate to be fixed by the Governor in Council from the dates respectively on which the moneys comprising such amount were paid out of the Fund in respect of such permanent works, until the thirty-first day of December of the year in which the apportionment is made, and the amount of such interest Ghall be added to and be deemed to be part of the amount so expended on permanent works." In the proviso of the said SUbsection, after the words "total amount 'of the contributions," the words "in respect of permanent works" are inserted; also, after the word " expended" the words " thereon including interest" are inserted. (ii.) In the first paragraph of subsection two, the word "and," after the word "excessive" is repealed, :tnd the word " or " is inserted in lieu thereof: (iii.) In the last paragraph of subsection three, the vord " February" is repealed, and the word" August" IS inserted in lieu thereof. (iv.) In subsection four, the word" apportionment" is repealed, and the word" determination" is inserted in lieu thereof.

In the first paragraph of subsection five, after the words "Local Authority," where they first occur, the words" in respect of permanent works" are inserted; also the word "July" is repealed, and the word " January" is inserted in lieu thereof. In the second paragraph of the said subsection, before the word "works" the word "permanent" is inserted. . The following provision is added to the said subseq- tion :-. " The amount of contribution from a Local Authority in respect of maintenance determined under this section shall be paid by the Local Authority to the Fund at a date not later than the thirtieth day of ·June in the year next succeeding the year in which such apportionment is made." (vi.) In paragraph (b) of subsection six, the words. "January next preceding such apportionment" are repealed, and the words "December of the year in which such apportionment is made" are inserted in lieu thereof. Amendment. of Schedule 5. The following paragraph is added to the Schedule to the Pr\ncipal Act:- Evidence. [28.] The mode of proof of matters required to be proved under or for the purposes of this Act, and for facilitating such proof; for the purpose of any proceedings under this Act, dispensing with proof of any forma.l matters or of handwriting or of d'Ocuments or of authority.
