An Act to limit the power of Jus t ices of the

Peace in certain cases. [10th May, 1861.]

BE it enacted

by the Queen ' s Most Exce l len t Majesty by and w i t h

t he advice a n d consent of t he Legislat ive Counci l and Legis la t ive Assembly of N e w South Wales in Pa r l i amen t

assembled and by t h e

au tho r i t y of t he same as follows :—
1. I n every case where u n d e r t h e Ac t of Counci l fifteenth
Victor ia n u m b e r four any Jus t i ce of t he Peace alone or j o in t ly wi th

any other J u s t i c e of t he Peace m a y by s u m m a r y conviction or order commi t any person to impr i sonmen t for any longer t e r m t h a n six m o n t h s such Jus t i ce of t h e Peace alone or jo in t ly as aforesaid shall not hereafter so commit a n y such person for any t e r m of imprison­

m e n t exceeding six m o n t h s .

2. This A c t shal l be styled and may be cited as the " Magis ­

t r a t e s ' Powers Limi ta t ion Act."
